[UK] Where To Buy Good Resistors / Capacitors / Etc For CRT Replacements

Ello ... I'm still largely clueless in regard to a lot of stuff ...... but I kept reading how 'Japanese Capacitors are can haz bezt cheezebrgr' when people talk about lots of this stuff ... or with regard to audiophile nonsense.
I don't doubt that ... however, whenever I try to find such things, I just end up finding bloody audiophile sources, and the prices are hilarious.

So ... I can't grab a whole set of lotsa different ones ... and then use them to replace the haunted m'f'ers on an asthmatic chassis or something.

So ...


... where are the good places to buy resistors and capacitors which are of good enough quality for a CRT?

(please try not to concentrate on the far east mentions in the spoiler ...
... I don't care about that unless it is GENUINELY necessary)​

Like, if I am 'recapping' ... ... or ... reresistoring (????) ... ... some CRT ... what's a good level to buy at and where are the good retailers?

Finally ... I would LOOOOOOOOVE to be able to go to a store and actually pick shit out, but I am assuming that there is ... like ... one electronics store left in the UK, and it's run by a bloke called Penfold, and they don't like 'humans' ... but ... yeah, if there's a physical store, then even better ... but online is cooley mc-cools.

( I'll try to update this with a good like if it becomes a reasonably useful thread for others ... but I doubt it will )

Thats where we buy our parts from, we have a couple of techs who spend most of their days recapping old audio equipment, they only use the above brands due to reliability.

Ahhhh ... yeah ... Farnell ... that's the site that has the same interface as Mouser ( I think Mouser uses Farnell ... as does another ... if I'm right ... which isn't always the case! 😅 )

I think you need to add Digikey to your list. They sell official/genuine manufacturer parts and have a large inventory. Orders are shipped from their US warehouse to your door in the UK in just 2 days (I’ve had an order arrive as quick as 36 hours after I placed the order). You can pay in GBP as well. Free shipping if spending over £33.

CPC/Farnell/Element 14 are part of the same group.

There's none of that complication. Digikey collect VAT at point of sale so there are no import surprises. They have a GBP storefront, delivery is free over £33 and as qjuk says they are super fast.

Digikey pay the import taxes. They also have a UK office.
It’s basically exactly the same setup as Mouser (who is in your list). Mouser also ship from their warehouse in the US, have a UK office, pay the import taxes and delivery (usually) in 2 days.

The prices you see are excluding VAT.
When you go to checkout, VAT is added to the basket.
If your basket is over the £135 limit to attract duty (which is different to VAT) I believe both Digikey and Mouser will pay/absorb this charge themselves.

When your parcel is shipped, there are no additional fees to pay to the courier or UK customs. The parcel won’t even have any Customs forms on it. The amount you pay at checkout is the amount you pay - there’s no extras.

RS Components. The only real downside is their really crappy website that's impossible to search unless you have the exact part number. Forget searching for a general 7400, and it's useless for specification or price comparisons. They have most things you'll need, just their website won't find it. Find a very old paper catalogue somewhere, or one on CD.

Yet standard RSPro caps seem to be doing a good enough job. I tend to buy 25-100 each purchase, I had to buy about 400 from ebay recently, but the ultra-subminiature type. Tolerances very good, and always fit uprated voltage/temperature values.
