This one of two tabletops I was lucky enough to get from the Peter Davies collection

A Universal Cosmic Alien, but when I seen the pictures with the extra button and 4 way sticks I knew it had been converted so was a bit of a mystery! I had it in my head it would be scramble, but later found it was space panic which was cool as it's a game I remember playing back in the day

Anyway it's in not bad condition cosmetics wise, even the glass is good, only thing is the legs are a bit rusty. it's all complete inside but was dead

screen and board are both faulty. The monitor is nor something I recognize so I'm busy cleaning up and re capping a Hantarex Polo that will do for now as it has some screen burn. Mark (Andrewism) has repaired the board (thanks Mark) and will be sending it back to me soon. I also found 2 other space panic boards at Pete's place but these were much longer than the one in the machine and don't fit

Mark has used one for parts and repaired the other which is good. I guess it would have been good to put it back to Cosmic Alien but decided to go with it as it is as it's a game I like.

Another thing is the coin door is missing! would love to find one for it so if anyone can help let me know?

Right have also decided to get the space panic artwork re created and Etienne in the the Netherlands has been kind enough to do this for me. He does great work and have had some great overlays from him for my Space Invaders and Space Firebird, his web site is here

Above is the control panel as it is now.

So the first job will be to remove the old screen and check the internals, clean it all inside make sure the voltages are all good etc. Most work will be inside as I said externally it's very good. Will add better pictures and my progress once I get the machine to where I will be working on it.

Now I have a dilema! the polo screen is bigger than the original! so it will not fit without butchering the plywood I have marked in red! I would need to router that plywood to half it's thickness down about 2 inches
smiley11.gif
Or try and get the old screen working but that could be in-possible for me, don't even know what make it is. Also if I fit the bigger tube would I be able to shrink the image on the polo to fit hole in the lid?

What should I do?

butcher the cab to make the polo fit?

Try and get a smaller monitor?

Kill myself trying to fix the ancient unknown screen?

I'm a bit underwhelmed at the lack of response! maybe no love for Universal cocktails?

Anyway, it's looking like the Polo monitor will be going in the machine, I have re capped the chassis and fitted a new flyback (thanks Grant) it's now working nicely. Also figured a way of fitting it without cutting into the cab, so should I ever get the old knackered screen working (unlikely) it could go back in.

Have also tidied up the wiring the edge connector was a mess! Will post some pictures and details if anyone is interested?

Thanks Ronnie

it's complete but not tested so looking for power supply for monitor and board. i might just send the chassis off for repair to start with.

Is your firebird board the type with edge connector?

For the fever you best start a thread as I'm sure bits will be about

looks like it's a plug in i can't see any edge connector. probably do a thread when the cab arrives sometime after thursday. i was tempted to convert it to a colour monitor but i will be keeping black and white. i don't want to mess about with it.
