thanks about battery info.. it has already started to leak!.

Ok, about changing it...

do I need to keep power to the system, to prevent loosing any information?

( like Cmos batteries on PC motherboards?)

Hi Simon,
if you haven't already done it, make sure you replace the battery on the amiga 3000 motherboard. I had two units and the battery leaked badly on one of them writing off the board. Currently I've got one unit and one full set of parts from the sit down version of the game. The big challenge I see is in the tons of wiring that relate to the head tracking, which us neatly encapsulated and aligned in your simulator

I'll image the drives I have as they may have driving software on there. I'm missing key disks, so any help there would be appreciated!

May I suggest you attach a couple of wires and extend the battery location to somewhere less corrosive for years to come

hi guys,

I just did the same repair on my Amiga 500 plus last weekend.

I used a like for like varta part but you might want to use a coin battery. If electrolyte has reached the board wash the area in a dilute white vinegar solution and a toothbrush, then rinse. Check for any trace damage. I just snap the old battery off and solder the new one to the previous solder points, but fly leads and a battery pack mounted in the case would make easier. The replacement needs to be rechargeable. Don't worry about losing data. It's just a battery backup for the real time clock. Left in place these things are lethal to amigas!

what ratio of water to vinegar should I use?

You can run the Amiga 3000 without a battery - the only thing that gets stored that is important is the SCSI parameters and they just go to default which usually works.
