Wasps nest in garden room with cabs

So …. Little critters
I new some wasps where buzzing round the entrance but I didn’t realize the size of things to come!

Looking up yesterday I saw a nest the size of say two large water melons side by side.

So might have delt with it yesterday had it not been for my little boy falling from a chair and splitting his melon.
We ended up in A&E for stitches didn’t get out till 9:30

So I thought today I would put on some gloves put in some goggles a hoodie
And then a blanket over the top and a scarf across my face and go in where fools go!

And yep I got stung
I placed a plastic tarp over my cabs
And with a garden rake I took one fast swipe at the whole thing hooking it from as far behind as I could bringing the large lump crashing down and the basterds were like a black mass in the interior.

And then like when the tie fighters leave the Death Star they descended on me.

What I can’t believe is the speed of which they know excactly what to do .

They flew under the blanket
And stung me through my clothes!

I quickly pulled the tarp corners together
So I had the large mass of the basterds
Wrapped in the tarp and made for the hills
running like a ferret now adrenaline coursimg through my veins wanted to through the mass which was now under my arm like a rugby ball anywhere away from me !

But I choose instead to shake it loose
As I ran down hill down hill down the main road watching it smash apart as I left the scene I ran inside to carm down.

Got my self together went back to cabs
To much remains to leave so back I went

Super quick mashed as much as poss
Got stung only once this time and ran off. Hope fully they have left tomorrow …. I couldn’t leave em in there because they where eating paper,
Card board items that was Causing mess on the floor ..
Which is a shame because they did creat heat which was a bonus .. if they didn’t chew paper & card and Make mess ( mashed pulped paper they chew for nest all on the floor ) I would have left em.

Oh shooot that dont look good poor little sod !!!! Get someone in for the wasps , They are a mare to get rid of and I for one would not be tackling them.

Ahhh bless your boy I hope he is gonna be okay? I had a small wasps nest at the back of my garden in a flower pot, I had to get someone in because my two boys love playing in the garden and I couldn't risk it. I tried to get rid of the little buggers but they stung the shit out of me, so I would recommend getting someone in. Again I hope your boys is alright

Luckily a first responder was outside my place when I ran for car to wisk him into A&E so he got butterfly stitches on his wound quick ..
But then .. at A&E bless the nurse stuck
Super glued her hands to my boys head wound then pulled wound open to get her stuck hands off his head making him scream cry and wound re-open.
But they do work long hours bless ‘em

We thought we where having a bad day but
We meet a little girl with a degenerative hart condition and then everything falls into perspective,
❤️❤️ her mum handed little man a pair of her leggings to put on.
And they played together for an hour.

I just thought I was quick enough to pull it down then turn and run.
Turns out I’m not.
4 stings . And some others on my clothes when I got in my house still on the attack which I managed to kill before they got me

FOR FUTURE REFERENCE save paying out for sting relief or wallet relief if council do it …. This can work

Buy a good ant powder ‘ puffable’ choose a cool night when flight activity is low . Identify where they are entering the nest though it’s usually awkward at the bottom and also how they get into the building a vent , loose door or window? Dose the ledges they have to walk on with ant powder and without disturbing them too much puff ant powder into the nest entry area or around any ledge they tend to rest on They carry it into the nest and the chemical should kill or deter them in a day or two ?

But do take care and only when flights cease remove the nest they don’t use it twice but do return to a shed where nesting material and climate suit them
Hold a bin bag round it and drop it in with a spade or similar to dislodge it and help prevent any still live wasps climbing out to sting you ..

amateur advice only and I don’t accept liability if you still get stung during this procedure but it worked twice for me once in a pile of tree cuttings in garden and once in a shed and my neighbour did his in his attic ok 😜

Yeh I used bleach spray this time
I won’t know until I return if it has been a success.

Recently a friend at a friends fell from attic after 30 wasp stings to his back .. he fell through hatch trying to make a fast exit .. he is ok he is tough
He worked in Columbia on hydro dams in the jungle .. accidentally ended up a
Friend of the cali cartel.
He carried on working with stings to his back.
He is married to a girl he met in the jungle. I imagine they have worse out there than wasps hey.

Ironically my friend is allergic to bee stings but not wasps. He has the epi pen. There was a campaign to encourage people to carry epi pens in case you find someone who has gone into shock time is critical.

Yeh same with the clothes .
I had Google’s,gloves, face covered with a scarf ,hoodie
And then wrapped in a blanket over the top.. gits still came under and got me through the glove and through my jumper. The stings are very itchy today.
Apparently the Egyptians used bee venom for medicine pretty good stuff by all accounts

Pro tips:

• If you can't see wasps, and can't hear wasps, you haven't got wasps
• wasps never make a nest in the same place twice

Wasps are cool. I'd rather be a wasp than a hooman.

Although, given a choice, I'd rather be a scorpion or a shark.

I've used the Wasp Nest Foam, which works well on exposed nests because it is wet and absorbs through I think but obviously you are aiming for the entrance. Done in the coldest part of the day when things are quiet.

I've also used the puffed powder technique for a nest in the eaves and that also did the trick.

But these approaches are far less exciting and don't make for a good story. Keep up the good work.
