I was going to get my eyes lasered as I'm really short sighted, but came to the conclusion I like to have the default protection that glasses provide. A few years ago I was taking one of my kid's hot-wheels garages apart but was struggling with a big plastic tube. It came loose suddenly and I rammed it right into my glasses and then up my forehead, which was much better than into my eye. I'm sure I would have burst my eye ball if I hadn't had glasses on. My brother works at Morefield's and his advice for anyone with kids is no Nerf guns (or trampolines).

My daughter poked me in the eye whilst she was riding on my shoulders whilst walking round a lake. Hurt like a bastard and my eye started streaming and closed up and wouldn't stop. Ended up in A&E a few hours later and found out she had scratched my cornea and they gave me some antibiotics.... it was fathers day too 😆

I've always been pretty good at wearing eye protection at work and at home after having it drilled into me (giggity) whilst working in machine shops etc over the years. I have been known to wear my safety squints at times at home though when I really should grab some specs....

I'm thinking Swimming Goggles are probably a better bet for working on car, small or bigger ones so they seal around your eye
Funnily enough I bought some swimming goggles recently for the sole purpose when chopping onions 😭 I don't need them 90% of the time but you sometimes get some crazy strong ones and that typically tends to happen when batch cooking and have a kilo or so to chop. They do work really well. I probably look like a twat but what's new?! 😛

I don't have that problem because I don't like Onions

That's reminded me of something, and I think he should have worn Protection for his eyes, My brother when we were quite young and it was in garden where I live now, he had a cane and was poking a frog in the garden to make it jump, when it jumped he jumped and poked himself in the eye :ROFLMAO:
Also he should have for his feet for when he was at our other Grans and he was messing outside in carpark, being mr strong man picked up end of kerb stone and dropped that on his foot

Well you'd surely have to put your Speedos on also Chris? ;)

Safety glasses are a definitely worth putting on if you're messing with anything dusty or even spraying paint or whatever.

I've also started wearing a mask when sanding wood etc and still wear a mask during Supermarket shops over winter, not due to Covid but sick of people coughing their guts up and not having the decency to put their hand over their mouth to stop their shit flying all over the place that us guys end up breathing in.

Also, my cousin works as an Agricultural fitter, he works with a lot of Petrochemicals. He was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer 18 months ago and his prognosis wasn't good (59 when diagnosed)
Anyhow, he reacted well to Chemotherapy and 6 months later had a nine hour operation to remove the cancer and now has the all clear. I honestly believe if he'd worn a decent mask when working with that stuff he wouldn't have contracted Cancer. I could obviously be wrong but we all know those chemicals are carcinogens.

Treat your body with the respect it deserves gents, it's not a lot of fun when it goes wrong and only needs little effort to look after it.

After working in engineering and being a welder fabricator most of my working life i have lost count the amount of times i have had metal/sparks in my eyes
i always wore eye protection after the first time but they dont always work i have had sparks go up behind the face shield/ glasses and still land in my eye.
one of the worst was when i had a piece of hot metal go into my eye had to go to A and E , they put some local anaesthic to numb it and then some dye which is uv reflective , they the n turn the lights off in the room and the doctor had a uv black light attached to his head and picked the metal out of my eye with a syringe needle , not a pleasant experience m also had many welding flashes when i first started welding this was before the days of a reactor light mask just the old nodder ,if u know u know , probably why i suffer with dry eye now in my left eye sore and irritated most days tried everything over the counter they dont really help and doctors dont want to know as the recepionist told me they dont do eyes , what do they do these days ?
A friend of mine has messed up his eyes with welding without protection so i hear what you saying.GET THEM GLASSES ON.
