Here is a copy of the mail i sent to the mail list... lets get this party started... again!!

----------

Better start as I mean to go on!!

Sorry for the lateness of this. I spent Sunday at Ravs discussing what was
to come, the rest of the weekend was spent on the sauce ;))

OK, after lengthy discussions I have changed my original plan of completely
restarting the VAC with a new board etc. It would be a complete waste to
throw away all that is in place just for a cosmetic makeover.

So here's the plan!

If interested, all of you old school out there can treat
http://www.ukvac.com/forum/default.asp as the home of UKVAC. I would like
everyone to use the board directly as opposed to this maillist which will no
longer link its post to the board. The mail list will stay up for the time
being, but once everybody is back on board I would like to take it down
permanently, but that is a discussion for later.

I understand that some of you are in contact through facebook or MSN, but if
we can use the board as a central point that would be great.

My aim in restarting this? Simple... to get us all back together as it was
back in the day. Dom and I spent Sunday reminiscing about all the great
meets, techmeets and piss ups we had.... and then we even started turning on
and playing machines! It was a great laugh... even if I did beat him
(percentage wise) on his own machines :)))
I personally feel it is the lack of contact, meets, camaraderie that appears
to be making the majority of us feel like the collecting is not worth doing
/ a millstone etc... and that feeling is dangerous! One afternoon has
restarted my enthusiasm for the hobby as I know that at meets by day we can
fix / play the machines... and by night... BEER AND FOOD TIME!!

There is no point people harping on about alternative boards such as Jamma+
and alike. They do a very good job, but they just aint the VAC! We have an
affliction and we just have to deal with it! I don't see hardly any of the
old faces on Jamma+... but I know the majority are still reading this list
because you have replied to me back in February when I first stated waffling
this idea!

So in conclusion... UKVAC LIVES! Get yourselves on the board... get active
and lets start getting some meets going. First tech / beer meet will be
first weekend in October at either mine or Ades (subject to me asking him
that is... you out there dude... I know you are) Details to follow...

Come on... voice your opinions!! You know you want to!!

All the best

Baz

Break the link! The uk-vac list is dead, no point in continuing with it. All the messages are here.

The last "UKVAC Meet" was at the UK pinball show a few weeks ago and we had probably about 1000 people turn up, including several UKVAC ol' boys. There was one video game (my Centipede) that was in *constant* use for the 3 days of the event - don't go telling me that no-one cares about classic video games! Read the review and see the pictures and video here:
http://pinballnews.com/shows/ukpinballshow2008/index.html (if you look closely, you can see the Centi in the final pic of the report!)

As usual, the show had all the elements of a traditional UKVAC meet, crazy Friday with everyone arriving and shuffling round machines and gassing, Saturday chaos with 100ish competitiors in the crammed tournament area, loads of techincal issues to solve, Saturday evening Meal with the Stars (well, John Trudeau, Williams designer at least!) and awards, including dreddful service, drinking to 3am at the hotel, Sunday more of the same until about 6pm then everyone, packed up and buggered off. Sound familiar?

Was thinking about making the Centi a competition machine with the 3-minute countdown ROM that I played at Funspot a year or so ago, but never got round to it. Next year, when the UK Pinball Show hosts the 2009 European Pinball Open, with competitiors from all over the place, I'll be trying my hardest to ensure there's some more vids to play and hopefully a tournament!

If you can help, be sure to let me know ;) This crazy hobby is what you make it!

Long live UKVAC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers,
D-Type

BTW, If you want to see what a rollercoaster nightmare it is trying to organise this sort of thing, head on over to Nick's Blog (the organiser) here:

Kewl the VAC is back! Agree with Phil, avoid the confusion and kill the uk-vac list now, let's have just one home and there's f*ck all on it anyway. At least the IRC channel has stayed (relatively) interesting compared to others during the dark times. Meet's wise, count me in but I need all the warning I can get (double this and add 40 if it's further than an hour away) these days cos of the new nipper, but I'll try and get out when I can.

Now we just need all the old gang back and posting (Rav, Ade, Baz, Gudd, Macro, Dzine, MikeDX, Kdoe, SMF, etc etc - you know who you are)!!!

will keep an eye out for more breaking news ...

Did someone mention beer?

I am having a huge clearout of pcbs from my shed to make space for 2 sofas so I can host another meet.

Bring on the meets.

Hi all,

Long time no speak! I'll stop lurking for a while and start posting again, after what must be a 8 year break!

Still got all of my machines ... actually moved them around the other day, destroying Andy's old waterlogged Galaxian in the process. :(

Cheers,

Steve.
