What are these roms? Eprom programmer first timer

So I'm playing around today with an eprom programmer and eraser. Having nearly zero experience of doing this kind of thing before, I stumble across 4 IC's that seem to have got stuck in the eraser.

2 chips - HM4716AP-4OL3 - these seem to be ram. What would these be doing in an eprom eraser?

Another 2 chips:

MB8516 EPROM
D2716D EPROM

Both seem to be the a replacement for the 2716, soI check if they are blank using HN462716G as the setting. No probs reading either, and they are not blank!!

So I look at the hex of one of the chips and it says Sega 198, the other doesn't really give anything away. Anyway I'm really interested in finding out what they were programmed for? How can I easily achieve this? Or does anyone know what they would be by looking at the hex?

I guess romident in Mame will do the trick

you need to save them as binary to use romident, these look like intel hex format.

Yup, I made a mistake there. The roms are now in binary. Says "no match" in mame romident. It's something from Sega in 1982. Possibly a corrupted write, hence why it's no match?

If it's from Sega there's a list somewhere of all the ROM numbers and the games. Did the ROMs have labels on them or were they copies?

The text in the bin file seems to suggest it is a videogame, rather than an electro-mechanical

Hmmm, I've tried to test the ram, but not got anywhere. The programmer "Micromaster LV" is meant to have a built in IC test for 74 and 4000 series SRAM and DRAM, but no joy so far. I don't have a manual for this programmer so selected the 74/4000 series option on the menu but it doesn't detect the RAM.

I must be doing something wrong. Anyone familiar with this programmer?

Have you got any more detail on what RAM it claims to support - screenies for example? IIRC 4000 series are just CMOS versions of the standard logic so I'd expect there to be a different option for testing RAM.

Does it imply that it auto detects the RAM or do you specify type/pin count/anything?

Doh. Also it's worth having a look in the TechTools list FTP site that I host - John has thousands of manuals for old & weird gear. It's on FTP.arcadetech.org, log-in as anonymous or FTP.

I just ran a find(1) over the TTL and arcarc mirrors for *icromaster* and didn't get anything obvious, but the naming is a bit random so I wouldn't say there were definitely no relevant files.

Mine is an LV40, but I can only find info for the LV48. I think they are almost identical on what they support, but one does 40pin and the other 48pin

There is an option to autodetect 7 and 4000 series SRAM and DRAM. I was trying to detect a 4116 RAM

You can also manually select RAM by number of pins and memory size. Based on what I can see there, there is no option for any that is 16K, so maybe this the problem. I think the lowest settign was 32K

The ROMs you dumped may have been split as the high score text seems to start in the middle of a sentence.

It looks as though it might originally have read "TODAY'S BEST" but is missing the "TODAY" part.

4116 RAMs require +5V, -5V and 12V supplies, the only thing I ever found that has a built in test for them is an ABI DIT-24XP (do the newer ABIs still do them ?), and even then I had to make an adapter to supply the three voltages.
