I'm kind of an average gamer, can usually do OK on most games but nothing special. My best game would have to Star Wars, with about 2.9 million being my hi score (which I know several of you can beat). I suppose I'm not too shabby at Tron either, with about 110,000 points up on the ASM level.

What are you guys good at?

Not really anything I'd rate myself as good at, but I'm not too sh*t at Puzzle Bobble or Bubble Bobble. I am getting better at Star Wars but am hampered that due to the storage situation I can only play it for 6-8 months of the year, so it takes me quite a while to get back up to my previous skill levels.

One game I'd love to be good at is one of the drivers, such as a version of Initial D.

A long time ago I reconciled myself to the fact that I'd (hopefully) be much better at PCB repairs than actually playing the games

I reckon I'm pretty good on Spy Hunter. I'm sure the official world record on TG is bollocks as it's over 13 times any other score recorded and the game length times don't add up at all either. I can beat every other score on their list (and could do when I was 10

)

I'm also pretty good (or have been) on a few others. Notable ones I can remember being Paperboy, Pacland, Hyper Sports/Olympic, Nemesis, ROTJ, Metro Cross. I was also pretty good on Flying Shark BITD but I seem to have lost my skills on that one somewhat

.

I still suck on Space Harrier though despite my best efforts to trouble the high scorers (cue Jodo

Defender, Kung Fu Master, Star Force, Rygar, ASO, New Rally X, Bomb Jack although some have waned a bit through lack of practice, I must play more

I was pretty much an all rounder on everything else (in the time frame) with reasonable scores. Had a 3 something million on SW, over 40k on Space Invaders and over 50k on Galaxian, not too shabby.

Miss the scoring atmosphere though, Its not the same really but damn close

Andy.

Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands, pac-land, insector x and midnight resistance this year.
Currently having a good crack at Mr. do, not sure what constitutes a good score though!

I guess that's all relative really. I would imagine the ability to consistently complete more than 10 screens, thus looping round is going to be a 'good' score, but I don't doubt for a second that it's not going to be anything like a world class score.

I'm happy on Mr Do when I can complete 11 or 12 screens. But I've never really considered myself good, just competent.

Back in the day I used to consider myself reasonable at Crazy Kong as I could get about 150,000 on one coin / 3 lives. But these days that seems to be nothing!

Same for Tron really. I think the most I've had in recent years is about 130,000 or so but I know that's not all that great really. I don't think that even constitutes going all the way round once

I'm going to have a better bash at getting back into Tron since I fitted an NVRam to my cab and therefore don't need to worry about fixing the voltage levels for the V.Batt on the PSU any more. Sadly though when I pulled the PCB out of the cab to do that, then put it back in again the P1 spinner has now crapped out. Hence my request for a spinner a little while ago!

At the end of the day, I'm a fixer not a player.

Oh and Robocop, 10p and 23 minutes later completed with a unbeatable high score(unless you know the score cheat on the scrapyard)

Star wars - 16 Mill solo, 26 mill with my mate where we used to play for 1 Million each then the other would take over.

Gorf - got booted off by some of the older schoolkids at 181k after playing it for the whole lunchtime.

Track n Field - was usually a 4 player on Saturdays from lunchtime but the Buckfast generally started to kick in around 3-4pm and we would all start to die off as we got pissed (we had a really understanding arcade manager who turned a blind eye to us drinking behind the machine). Problem with T&F was that there were about 10 of us who could all turn in 8.00 sec 100m etc, so the 4 player games tended to become a co-opt on saturdays.

Defender - never really got past 500k, Stargate - stuck at 150k atm, I still haven't mastered the use of Invisio yet

Robotron - 1 mill was about it, only once lol. Game got taken out just as I was starting to get it together back then.

Bomb Jack - got to around 14 Mill and had to go pick my girlfriend up from work, I was gutted that day. Seem to be stuck at 3 Mill on mame, but maybe using a keyboard is the problem. TG settings I cant seem to pass 1Mill. http://www.youtube.com/user/kernzyp has a youtube channel teaching you how to play, really informative and the guy has some amazing gameplay.

Also seem to remember playing Gauntlet for 8 hours solid solo one day, but score wise I havent got a clue.

I had the privilege of having one of the top arcade gamers in central Scotland as a mate in the 80's. If you went to Blackpool he still had HRY in the score tables form the previous year. Only guy I knew in person who could hit the kill screen in DK, play defender, Robotron, Joust, Battle Zone, etc ad infinitum back in the day.

Wow, I managed to type more than 2 sentences, thats a record.

i was young when my dad said to me "here's a pound. make it last." this was back in the early 80's

i did!

the longest i ever played on star wars was 5 hours i think and i got 35 mil.

return of the jedi i could finish. easy u say to get 1.6 mil. but i figured out a way to play the last level again "level 8" u could get 2.25 mil. never seen any1 close to me ever.

gauntlet i could stay on all day.

gravitar i think i could stay on that for 5 hours also.

robocop i think there is 2 hidden points spots there.

bombjack i was good at. even made a book of the levels showing which order to do the round in.

joust i could stay on all day. i remember i needed the loo so i told my m8 to stay by the machine while i went and 2 minutes later i was back and still had loads of lives left lol.

packland i used to get packers elbow from the water jumps lol but could finish that 4.936.910

marble madness i could finish very fast 208.340.

paperboy i was the first 1 to find the bug in the scores.

super mario bros i could finish without loosing a life 2.702.800

omg toobin was awsom fun 13 mil on that.

hang on/enduro racer/out run/sega ralley/power drift/virtua racing could finish and get top position.

ive been banned from a few arcades as i was hogging the machines for 1 credit

any of you guys get computer and video games magazine? i was in their high score lists all the time in the late 80's. i even wrote a hints and tips booklet for the front of 1 of them. think it was feb 1987/9?

ime shure i had a few world records but none were verified. think i was on twin galaxies years ago for "720"

:)

I used to be really handy at SFII arcade, but I've not played in ages so I'm probably rusty as hell. I was starting to get the skills back at Space Harrier last week, though. I used to be able to get through that on one credit, a long long time ago :D
