All this talk about 1994, but somehow no one’s mentioned the real masterpiece released that year: Street Fighter: The Movie!

You don't have the same incentive to do well like you did in the 80's when you only had £1 to spend that saturday in the arcade :)
Yep. As a ten year old even if I'd only scrounged 30p I'd walk a few miles for one credit of Space Harrier. Harry's lives mattered.

*** Disclaimer: I would like to clarify that the statement above was written by me but does not necessarily reflect my views. Any opinions or questionable life choices implied should be taken with a massive pinch of salt. Do not buy, play, or watch YouTube videos of Street Fighter: The Movie, even if it was released in the greatest year for video games, 1994. Play Daytona instead. Or literally anything else.

I don’t know what the old £5
Is worth but ite more than double and rising

See some guys looking 50 and 100 quid on there for the more familiar £5 note of the day
I know that means nothing but maybe you should of kept them 🥲
Free play kills the enjoyment of most arcade games imo. But it saves so much hassle for arcades today.
I agree .infinite continues .yuck
Or people just walking off in the middle of a game of pinball

That's a tough one. For me it's a coin toss between 1984 and 1985! Although I do have some nostalgia for a quite a few of titles from 1986!!!!
If I have to 100% nail my colours to a mast then it'll have to be..... 1984!
I wasn’t expecting anyone to say 84
Though some of the games I played the most were from 84
Star-force ,pacland .hyper sports ,kung-fu master
85 was superb also

It's was a difficult choice. My all-time favourite is Nemesis from '85. But 'the base' in Marble Madness, Kung Fu Master thrills, Circus Charlie mayhem, Hypersports adrenalin, Paperboy and Pac-land swung it for me.

1985! As well as Nemesis above, Commando, Gauntlet, Hang-On, Space Harrier (sit down), Yie Ar Kung Fu and Tehkan WC took my pocket and paper round money!

Pacland should only really be played with a joystick imo
Though I wouldn’t say no to a dedicated cab
It was absolutely everywhere for years in Jamma cabs
I never passed without playing
Always got value for money if only 10 p left

I thought the same until I played it with buttons. 10p was a great deal (y)

Karate Champ was also a corker for '84. Most kids back then were still into Bruce Lee so KC with the two player set up was killer to go at it with your mates, ' Winner stays on!! '

I agree that Pac Land works better with buttons. I was the same and only ever played it on stick in generic Jamma cabs as a kid. I used to swap hands depending if I was on the outward trip or the return trip because the joystick patting was awkward if pulling back with my thumb.

It all clicks once you get used to buttons. Swimming pools are easier and general manoeuvrability improves. Like when you're having to dodge left and right. Some situations need a lot of tapping. I used to often die in those tight spots with stick.

I'm still amazed anyone can clear the pools using a stick. I remember a load of kids playing it at Pontins in 1990 with a stick and beating the absolute shit out of it, to the point the cabinet was almost tipping over. That technique didn't clear the larger pools, surprisingly.
These games were incredible ,I wonder if they would of been just as good if they all had the xevious music
Funnily enough, Solvalou and Xevious 3D/G have some of the best arcade music I've ever heard. It's like they were making up for the original game.

Just hit the end of those boards and keep hitting the joystick same direction
We used to jump back the way from the islands in middle
Got harder on trip 8 when you had to use the planes and clouds to get across
