This is weird rcd tripped in house and my extension socket plug has melted literally into my plug socket. Find it odd the so called rcd of the extension did not kick in and the fuse did not blow either just literally nearly started a fire. The wiring inside the socket was smoke damaged only and wiped up fine. I have the conundrum now of did the tumble dryer cause this and a new dryer or was it a faulty extension. Lead/socket !! Luckily no big fire and noone hurt. I always remember a phase of dryers that did cause some fires so never leave it on when I am not in,,thank goodness !

Probably a loose connection in the plug top, I see this often. I would recommend using MK plugs and sockets and check connections are tight.

I have had a few smart sockets melt too, they don’t like big loads like heaters.

Socket seemed to stop it melting through the back and wires ok. I'll replace socket and extension first see if mk do one. Cheers just checked was mb socket.

My bet is that the root cause was due to the live metal pin contact inside in the socket itself becoming worn/warped out of shape due to heat over a period of time.

I’ve seen this a couple of times before, often caused by tumble dryers (since they draw quite a bit of amps).

Fit a brand new socket and new plug and you should be all good again.

Did you have the tumble dryer plugged into the extension lead? Was there anything else plugged into the extension lead? Most extension leads are only rated for 13 amps and I'd only trust that if it was a really good quality one.

Saying that, I've seen loose fuses in plugs do similar things before on much lower wattages.

Ok so i just read what you said as apose to just looking at pics. First DO NOT use a dryer on any extension cable , especially one that coiled. All dryers are amp hungry and the slight loose cable with do exactly this.

As sais rcd mcb would not trip , there is a arch prtection drvice but for consumer units but are not very common at all (yet). Problem with them is fantom tripping, its fairly new tech !

I take it you were using the Dryer at the time? You get the contacts the fuse pushes into loose sometimes in plugs, or screw terminals loose which is probably what happened. it's worth going around the house checking plugs on stuff making sure no loose screws or fuses

I get issue with my RCD tripping just from loose screw terminals in Sockets or light switches, had to go around whole house checking them and found 2 or 3 loose, tightened up and all good again, I've fitted all MK sockets in mine, there not even that expensive, used MK Grid stuff to isolate all the sockets for the arcade machines
Even bought an old Extension lead off ebay it's in great condition but same as the one I had, made in England quality rather than buying cheap tat the shops sell these days

I had to repair some of the wiring in the washing machine I have after it nearly set on fire at partners house, she wasn't using it but it was switched on with isolation switch, seems the mains filter failed and took out a load of the internal wiring so don't even leave power going to them when not used, switch off with isolation switch if under units or switched off at socket or even unplugged
