Mild Mannered Guys, by data east. Are you mild mannered enough to go unnoticed?

This is a nice clean pcb, s'minty. I like a lot of these simple games from this era of data east, still looking for a sly spy too. And the elusive cabinet with curved Marquee!

Set to no continues, it's harder than it looks and needs a bit more skill than it looks too. Can get to the third boss with his multiple shadow guys so far. Good fun thumping the heads off the baddies!

One thing to note is the music and sfx mix, bit of an odd choice considering the music is pretty catchy, see here http://www.ukvac.com/forum/bad-dudes-vs-dragon-ninja_topic369903.html

Cool game ("classic" arcade to me), and not going to break the bank, check it out :)

Psycho Soldier by SNK, sequel to Athena but very different. This is a rock solid platformer/shooter, more fun than you might think at first glance.

The first level is easy enough, like a lot of arcade games, but it gets hectic enough trying to dodge being squashed into dead ends by the screen pushing you forward all the time. Lots of different power ups that I don't fully understand yet, when it gets too difficult you can use your psycho balls, just like real life.

The bosses remind me of rampage where you're more trying to demolish the building they're in rather than the boss itself. Catchy music throughout. Can get to level 3 so far, seems like it has legs so I'll probably be playing it off and on until I beat it.

Thanks to alfa75, the pcb is in pretty good shape and it's the Japanese version which I wasn't expecting :)

Laid up with a leg cast which is terrible, but it's a good time for playing games!

Finally beat psycho soldier. The last two levels, and especially the last boss are a serious challenge. I think it took me 5 or 6 credits and that's with loads of practice too. Anyway, fun game. You get a bit of a karaoke ending with some of the characters playing in a band which is quirky.

Vendetta by konami (or crime fighters 2 in japan). Typical scrolling beat em up of the time, but a rock solid one up among the best. ?Lots of little details going on in the background, destructible environments, memorable bosses, good selection of weapons, and not hulk hogan.

Dead End City sounds like a dodgy place to live, and it is, cos you might run into The Humanic Weapon! Good stuff.

As far as I know the only censorship between vendetta and crime fighters 2 is one type of enemy that appears twice. I wouldn't get in knots trying to find a Japanese version for that alone.

Dungeons and dragons: shadow over mystara. I've played a few hours of this over the last while and it's honestly great. You won't get better bang for the buck on cps2, this game must be at least an hour or two long.

It's very difficult. It has rpg elements were you level up, the controls are complicated because there's so much you can do, tons of equipment, tons of bosses, multiple paths to take, hidden rooms, bit of a story going on. Top notch graphics.

AvP is quicker to pick up and play, but d&d has way more going on for cps2. Best beat em up? Maybe.

I have the grey version which is all in English, good to note. Might struggle with the green version if you don't understand Japanese. Also a double pack on sega saturn (with tower of doom), its supposed to be a good port.

Haven't beaten it yet, but it should be a bit of fun multiplayer over christmas. Highly recommended all round :)

Never played flicky (that's what she said) but I remember seeing it loads of times on the megadrive.

One of those ones you're afraid to turn on, I've been playing cadillacs and dinosaurs the last week. Battered and bruised but still going :) great beat em up, always worth learning all the moves for these games. I don't try the 1cc thing because it usually sucks the fun out of it (different with shoot em ups, maybe) so with 3 credits I can get to the 5th level with the blanka rip-off, the 4th boss "slice" just destroys me every time. The soundtrack is top notch.

If I remember right I got the original goliath marquee off olly (arcade artwork), I reckon this is how a lot of people remember playing it back then? Big blues were rare enough to see over here.

Deja vu posting this...

Massive fan of C&D here too. It's the reason I had to have the Darksoft CPS1 multi.

However, the game I keep coming back to on it (which is not one I played BITD) is this one:

I'm enjoying the challenge of trying to 1cc this one.

Vaguely remember un squadron but it looks good, not insane difficulty. There's a bonus mission in the Japanese version too (from arcade cutting room floor)

Gone a bit mad for Helifire after I recently acquired this one. There's a proper post coming up soon. Haven't been active on the forum for a while but now the children are a little.older I now have some time for games again. Did consider doing a full DK conversion but Helifire is so addictive and the whole cab is original so a resto is on the cards. This will be my 3rd Nintendo cocktail and I think my 30th arcade cabinet

HeliFire is a fantastic game.. got the chance to play it in an original upright cab last year at a convention. As fate would have it, have acquired my own to restore later in the year. Can't wait!

Armed Police Unit Gallop, funny name. Some very nice graphics and a few quirky things thrown in like the auto tracking laser and being able to speed up scrolling by moving to the right, environmental hazards and so on. Signature irem style while going after "mad cars".

Can get as far as the third boss so far and it's hard to know what's happening with so much stuff flying at you, I just keep exploding!

Good shoot em up :)
