I've played it quite a bit in Mame (and on the Speccy when I was a nipper). I think my highest was somewhere around 150k and level 6 or 7. The little tricks like barrel control, spring timing and the route around the rivets stage help a lot but they don't protect you from the random acts of evil.

I never could reliably get past the loop 4 springs back in the day, I had no idea they had different lengths and just went for it when the gap looked large enough!

So recently armed with watching some high score vids, I thought to myself, it doesn't look too difficult.

I then tried to imitate some basic point pressing on the early loops, I died multiple miserable deaths and am now starting to understand the deviousness of the game.

It's certainly a great game that's for sure.

Let's see what you say in 12 months time when you're on your last life on level 19.1 and a wild Barrel hits you on the bonce! :ROFLMAO:

Anyhow, Candy cabs are banned on Desert Islands, dedicated cabs only, sorry gents! (y)
I've already had a wild barrel do me in just after my hammer ran out whilst trying to smash a fireball who was going up and down a ladder for no particular reason! 🫡

You will get to know exactly when the hammer is going to end. Also, depending on which half of the screen you are standing on the rivets/pies will determine which side of the board the fireballs will appear after they have been smashed.

* edit - if you are standing on the left of the board they will appear on the right and vice versa. This is also the case when they spawn at the start of the level(s) *

^ edit 2 - shit game! *

Random question, I haven't studied when the hammer runs out, does it run out in the raised position, the smash position or is it random?

Yeah, I realised that when I tried to deviate from the normal path on the rivet level.
But they just freeze for no reason, swap directions when you try and jump over them and run away when you go towards them!

I honestly can't remeber Ian, it must be 4 years since I played it but knowing DK it will be random!!!

The dreaded freezer! This can be a good thing though as they can get 'stuck'

The problem is, you will think it's stuck and it will come haring after you when you're stood next to it!

When they are stuck though, you can leach mega points off the miserable bastards!!!

Brian!! Now there's a blast from the past!

I wonder if he's still trying?

I'll bet he still has his 10 pieces of well done Bacon, 4 hard boiled Eggs and 3 pancakes though! (y)

Still love my Riding Fight PCB. I've got out 7 year old hooked on it now!
Not many stick and button super scalers out there but this is great fun
