Basically if this permanent change you would just need to cut the 4.8mm female crimps off the end of the wires which is usually found on American machines and crimp some 2.8mm female crimps to the wires for Japanese buttons aka Sanwa or Seimitsu buttons.
Only tricky part is creating a new daisy chained ground wire for the P1 & P2 buttons.
Thank you. The daisy chain is the piece I am confused about. Do you have to have one? Can you not just plug it in the same as before? Does the daisy chain start from any of the existing button grounds?
Many thanks

Like you mentioned every button/input needs a ground connection.
Usually there will be one ground wire from Jamma harness that is daisy chained between the buttons (same for joystick directions inputs).
I would say in most cases there is ground wire daisy chained between buttons 1, 2 & 3.
Another ground wire between buttons 4, 5 & 6 is usually present because the harness doesn’t usually have those buttons and would have something called kick-harness cable for CPS1/2 & 3 boards.
No. Common gnd is always connected either way. If you already have branching gnd wiring to each button I don't see the point in replacing that with a daisy chain.
I've always just swapped buttons in place (being lazy I'll just tighten the larger connectors with a crimping tool to fit Japanese buttons). But am I missing something? are there American buttons with weird connections that I don't know about?
