[ukvac] Would it be worth the Trouble? (TECH : Galaxians)
Hi,

I have 3 Galaxians boards.

1 x Austrailian Bootleg (Faithfully copies the namco track patern)
1 x Namco
1 x 2 board Bootleg

All of these are seriously faulty. One is corroded beyond beleif, one is hacked and one is missing loads of i.c's

OK my question is (and before you answer there is no financial gain in this purely for personal enjoyment)

Presuming the foil patern is good on the Namco one under the corrosion would it be worth stripping of all components and blasting the board to make like new. then re populating with new logic IC's? or battle through the faults on all 3 boards to find one in the end, which is the better of the two bad options?

How much would it cost to buy EVERY logic IC required for a galaxians board.

I can of course burn my own eproms and would have enough ram ic's.

So what to do.

your thoughts are welcome..

Andi

It would be an interesting exercise to strip an original Galaxian board
and scan it to process and regenerate the original PCB artwork. I'm not
sure about the availability of all the chips, but I guess that any
obsolete ones could be redesigned in with newer versions.

The idea of a build-it-yourself retro Galaxians kit is quite appealing.
Especially if extra pads were added to allow fudging of the PCB for the
mass of Galaxians PCB conversions that were done.

Incidentally, one of my friends is in the fairground/arcade biz and when
he was a kid he helped with the conversions on the Galaxians boards. He
new f*** all about electronics, it was just like the way mod chips are
banged into Playstations by every man and his dog these days.
