My daughter has a YouTube channel with other 30,000 subscribers and she's been hassling me to monetize it by putting adverts on so I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this? I have done some research and it sounds quite complicated so just wanted to know if there was anything I need to look out for and any do's and don'ts when setting it up.

She must have at least a dozen videos with over 250,000 views and a couple of 1m vids so she's probably missing out on quite a lot potentially.

I'll be honest, I'm to old to understand exactly what the hell her channel is about

It's little cartoon characters that she edits and then animates them by taking loads of screenshots with speech bubbles etc all set to music. There are lots of people doing the same sort of thing but you have to be a kid to understand what's going on. She's only 11 and she's gone from less than 50 to over 30k subs in around 6 months.

Yeah she is cheers.

I'm not 100% sure about monetizing it as I don't want it to become about the money for her but she's had 7.2m views this month and people are telling her that that can be big money so I'll probably have to give it a go for her.

Crikey, yeah monetise no doubt! Its quite simple if you just have a nose around on the youtube options.

I hate ads as much as the next man but doesnt stop me watching.

Doesnt have to be a career move, money could go toward developing content, or put away in a seperate account for savings etc.

Go for it.

Would recommend it if possible. Just a note though, if the videos are designed only for kids to watch, then this has to be stated on every video, and will impact on the return greatly.

If not, then that sort of views would get a return greater than the average job!

You'd be mad not to monitise tbh.

Ad revenue is worked out for every 1k views, even if she got £1.00 per 1k that works out to over £7200 per month off 7.2m. Not many jobs pay that!

I built my nephew an encoding PC last year and installed Vegas and whatnot on his PC. I tried to explain the figures to him but he's not interested so just uses it for Instagram, Discord, watching YouTube and playing as couple of games.

Loads of opportunities these days for creative people to earn a living without working for someone else, good luck to them I say!

I'll set it up in the next couple of days while I'm off work and have time to think.
While she does do some 3 or 4 minute ones, they are mostly under 30 seconds so she would only be able to put an ad at the start.
My job isn't very well paid so if it makes anything close to what I earn I'll be packing my job in and joining her
