Clive explaining how this originally is a Nelly the elephant & uses williams parts . And the only bit of pre sixties Formicain in his collection ..

Clive is closely connected to carters steam fair that had its own traveling arcade as part of the traveling fair .

Many of these were around in my childhood

Big 1d penny to play them late 50s-1960s

Steer a Ball, almost impossible to miss ‘lose’ hole past the home win ! 😢 if you even got that far as left side all the way was like a fatal no return at any stage!

Loved those fireman ladder races and similar horse race rapid winder cabs often two pennies to play and winner got their penny back.

Sadly decimalisation in 1971 saw the demise of any surviving ones… 1d went practically by slot size conversion to 2p around (5d value) five times the cost to play. Quite noticeable at the time!

Rip off European currency matching idea.

Even Mars bar went from 4d to 4p (over9d) even branded ‘New Size’ it was nowhere near twice as big…. New coins was the death of a lot great mid century Arcadia novelties and popular arm pull bandits too! Screen printed win award prize values were not easy to alter or replace on the translucent glass windows.

I was just saying a while ago how the excitement reduced on my Tooty Fruity on 1p a tiny coin we now use but the big 1d Brittania penny could be tactfully entered with a spin left or right with a thumb to steer it round the spring pins slightly in the drop zone . They were more popular in the 60s pre decimal.

It’s amazing seeing these cabs .

Clive said kids come and just don’t know even about the need to add a coin at all!
He has some converted to 20p

some are a pound ..
He has more in other locations along south cost and is looking for locations and ways to place more ..
Hé seems to have a lot!

Also lots of 1 arm bandits
