Skate boarding wasn’t anywhere close in uk to what it was In the USA .
BMX for me too ,maybe a bit of skateboarding .but I remember being in the USA 85 and 86 ,all the shopping centres had skateboarding shops .where you picked each part separately, and had it put together ..there wasn’t much of that in the U.K. then
Was pretty gig in my part of the UK, we had a great skateboard shop in Bristol - Rollermania anther good shop was in Southsea near the skate park.

You can be Sherlock Glenn I( as you started the thread ) and I will be Watson but I recon we have deduced why it wasn't a hit over here.
There is a 720 cab for sale nearby but it's converted to a golden tee.

That's horrible but also quite well done didn't update the coin mech to multi coin though which is strange.

Would be pricey to put back to standard unless its got a box of bits in the back.

Loved 720 as a concept and a fun game although I always just wanted to free skate more than worry about the time limits.

It seemed quite a rare game to find in the wild, certainly was not as Gauntlet. I mostly played it at seaside places, Cornwall had loads - maybe the surfer crowd demand it.

And talking of urban sports, to think there was an unreleased game called BMX heat, which used the hard driving hardware and had you sat an actual bike,
That could have been epic.

I always think it would be good to have a mod ,to just skate around and enjoy too
That bmx game certainly sounds like it would have been interesting ..
So Cornwall was the place for 720 cabs then

I was offered that a while back ,I was quite tempted .just to have another 720
But it would cost a fortune to sort and skills beyond mine .i wonder what’s inside it ,if original wiring is still there ,and if the ghetto blaster art is under the new art .or is the original monitor in there

For sure .it has a chain that makes the spinning work ! Think there may be repros .but not cheap and the cp looks as if it’s been messed with ?

There was a guy who initially traded as Ram controls ( if you haven't read the Fiasco he caused its worth a read on KLOV ) who made some amazing repros of all the Atari controllers and more including the 720 complete stick,

A brand new one is a thing of beauty, I would buy one just to have it on a shelf to look at.

Problem I see is the effort and investment required to develop such an item means you are unlikely to ever sell enough to recoup your investment.

An example are the blue Hunt Wilde grips or Paperboy, a wear and tear item so demand should be high from day one but there are still NOS available from the 80' today for $35 so when they do finally disappear there is no incentive to repro more at this sales rate.

Yeah I remember the chain mechanism becoming a problem. It took some punishment though to be fair as people couldn't help spinning the stick as fast as they could whether playing or not. The whirring of the mechanism was too much for them to resist and they would try and see if it would break lol. We kept it operating for about 5 seasons and it was popular for 2 of them and always had skateboards leaning up against it whilst being played. Not my cup of tea but we did have some very good players, to me though it was a real bugger to sack barrow about when rearranging the arcade.

Good one:)

It's not one I recall seeing in arcades I went in but doesn't mean there wasn't one as I only remember a select few but again my main memories are playing it on the C64
I played it quite a bit and then when outrun released I bought that which had the audio tape of outrun music with 720 on the other side

When 720 machine came up for sale on ebay and backflipper let me know I bid on it and won it for £250 which surprised me, guy down south owned it for quite a few years, I was down there just after 8am on Saturday morning to pick it up, he was pretty good at the game, it's one of those you really need to be dedicated at like skate boarding I guess to really get good at it and get decent high scores

Another Atari classic, Med Res and great colours with cool music

Surprised no one has mentioned Electronic Arts Skate or Die, Don't think I had this game, obviously inspired by 720

skate crazy's isometric levels and skateboard construction kit on the spectrum were favourites of mine

In terms of repro parts for 720, you would be over well over £500? just for the control panel bits.
Then the Last 720 PCB set I sold 10 years ago was about £350

Unless somebody has a complete control panel and mid res monitor spare then it's not economically viable, unless it's a passion project. Would be nice to see it saved tho.
