There can’t be many games that are truly better than the arcade version on home systems
I mean from back in the day

I’m not sure how I missed this one .but only started playing today
Tetris on the nes , it really is great
Albeit I’m playing it on an arcade machine lol playchoice 10

It’s got some great options as well as the 1 player 2 player game the arcade had

Cooperative
Versus computer
And with computer
These options would of been a hit on the arcade version I feel
You can also toggle the sometimes annoying but catchy music
It also plays as good as the Atari Arcade version

Can anyone name a better example of a home version being better than Arcade in anyway I suppose
Anyone agree with Tetris

Soul Calibur on the Sega Dreamcast:), superior graphics with fully 3D environments, 60 fps, additional content (i.e misson battle mode, art gallery, new characters etc).
Good call .Forgot about the Dreamcast .i don’t think I ever played soul in the arcade ,but did play on Dreamcast ..I do remember the likes of crazy taxi having superior options too on Dreamcast

Similar to Soulcalibur, Tekken Tag Tournament on PS2 was better than the arcade, much improved visuals, new characters, extra content like Tekken Bowling.

You could make the case that the Mega Drive port of Golden Axe was better, it didn't look quite as good but had more levels and the 'duel' mode.

I found that port a bit disappointing. It felt like it played slightly different to the arcade when smacking the enemies about and stuff like the corpses littering the screen and Death Adder being constructed from snakes was gone. I played the arcade version to death on holiday in Devon in 1990!

Yeah true, it's also missing the voice samples from Rambo First Blood. I'd argue the MD version feels slightly tighter to control though, and some of the sound effects are better, especially when you bash enemies on the head with the pommel of your weapon. The console version has a fantastic hollow 'thonk! effect.

I'll have to play the two side by side. I think I remember on the Megadrive you couldn't trap enemies by timing the slashes just right, so they always fell down. Or maybe that was just the MD-only sequel.

As for other stuff, I usually mention TC2 on PS2, DC Soul Calibur, but otherwise it's hard to think of anything from earlier.
Tetris always seemed a home computer game ported to the arcade in a very basic way (System16 or Atari).
There's stuff with better features (I've mentioned the great CD music on PC engine games before - Rtype in particular), but the arcade versions of pretty much everything up to mid 90's had better colours, higher resolution etc.

I do think it would be cool to do 'ultimate' remixes of some arcade games, adding in the odd feature that was better in home versions. Badlands can have the Amiga theme for a start!

Edit: does Tempest 2000 count? Only a decade later than the arcade version…

A close one for me. Though you cant really beat arcade on this one
Pacland on pc engine .loads of extras and almost identical
I loved when they made games years later like this ,that could actually do the arcade game justice

Silkworm is better on the Amiga, apart from that the only one I have stumbled across is Athena on the Nes, its slightly less shite!

Then a few Capcom games were better on the Nes but so different they dont really count I guess. Thinking of Gun. Smoke and Bionic Commando

I've heard it said that, in some ways, Daimakaimura on PC Engine SuperGrafx is better than the arcade version. 😯

I've got it but I'm too crap at it to give a valid opinion. Lol.
