We're holding another event at the Cambridge Centre for Computing History (aka Cambridge computer museum):
Arc-aid: part II! 15th / 16th November - 10am onwards both days.
£5 entry for the entire weekend; enter 'tempest' at the checkout:
http://www.computinghistory.org.uk/det/34377/Arc-Aid-(Part-2)-15th-and-16th-November-2014/
This is a UK-VAC exclusive event. What this means is that involvement in the arcade repair aspect of this event will only be advertised here on UK-VAC; Jason will still advertise the event to the public so that they turn up to the museum in the knowledge that we (UK-VAC) are doing something and they are welcome to gawp at us / ask questions as they pass by. This is not to say all future events will be the same but I'd like this one to be a close-knit group of engineers pulling together to fix the cabs. I'd invite and encourage all those on this forum who can make it to journey down to Cambridge and have a full weekend together. We'll be doing some more technical repairs that require parts and a little experience but this time we'll also be looking at having a great gaming weekend playing cabs that have been brought along / repaired, as well as holding tournaments on classic consoles. Steve is also holding an event nearby on the first evening just after we close up at the museum: http://www.ukvac.com/forum/meet-at-mine-15th-november_topic341287.html
Please discuss your ideas here, what you'd like to see / do, what you could bring etc. Like last time, we'll need a local volunteer or two to go to the museum before the event and take stock of what work is still remaining. We'll also need to source replacement parts etc before the event. If anyone can offer their floor / barn as a place to sleep on the saturday night then that'd be most welcome. Car & van pools / train journey sharing is encouraged.
Here's my initial ideas:
- more people bringing their own cabs to the event
- a few tournaments on consoles / any cabs brought along
- sleeping at a local forumite's place to keep costs down
- PCB & other arcade trades / sales encouraged (we all like avoiding p&p)
- maybe a talk or two from those who'd like to practice their public speaking
What say ye? Can UK-VAC unite for a worthy cause? Can I tempt those further afield to join the fray in the hopes of an interesting and memorable weekend?
Talks:
- Virtvic will be doing a talk
- guddler - doing a talk on PCB repair
- taito6581 - 'DRM of Pacman'
Other:
- ianski & t-m made pre-visit checks
- DaveO will see what he can bring
- ChuckieEgg is setting up a UK-Vac info stall
- Im attempting to bully Virtvic / Shaun into interviewing Jason for the 10 Pence Podcast
- Steve is hosting a Saturday night UK-VAC event nearby
- guddler - looking at asteroids & tempest
- smithy113_2008 is coming over from south wales with a van. If you want to bring a cab and are not too far off his course then why not organise a pickup / journey share
- taito6581 is coming from Belgium to do a talk on 'DRM of Pacman' (and flout his Rastermania wares)
