well, if you insist...

Unfortunately I seriously doubt I'll want to uplift the cab to take to shows; I doubt it would survive the transportation, (given the LD player died going over a few speed bumps the first time...

)

If it died again I promised Ordyne I'd MAME it.

Quick update on Player 2 repair.

Initially upon re-fitting the optical assembly and powering up, the player would do nothing but spin up and spin.......down - no attempt to lock on - not once

That was 6 hours ago.

No amount of adjusting the mirror position made any difference at all; that was with the maximum amount of turns possible in both directions on both mirrors, in quarter-turn increments. Zilch.

I removed the 'good' mirrors and fitted them to a new assembly from one of the spare players and started from scratch, as getting the original mirrors back to their starting positions is nigh on impossible - and I have patience.

Now I get something!! The player is attempting to lock on.....I get the tell-tale repetitive beeping as the optical head scans the underside of the game disc but still it doesn't lock on.

At this point I remember Neil giving me some advice to swap the PCB's in the player to eliminate the player itself being at fault or by turn identify that the fault *is* with the player...and not the mirrors.

As soon as I swap out the PCB stack and power on, the optical assembly slides to the centre and locks onto the disc. The player makes all the correct sounds and it seems we have a second working player.........only we don't

The player is locking alright but that's it - the motor wheel is not turning - it seems that the player is locked onto the start of the disc and isn't budging. Damn. I change out the motor for a known good spare but its no different. Across slides the assembly and locks on tight (I film the mirrors and they are pivoting / locking correctly etc..) but the disc is not playing.

Small steps then - I've gone from a jammed up non-worker, to a working player that locks onto a disc. More tomorrow.

Bed time.

Well, lightning doesn't always strike twice. After another 8 hours at it, 'it' being careful and methodical tweaking with 3 sets of repaired optics (!) and cannibalising the best parts from 3 different LD players, I have yet to get anything but a vague occasional lock and a lot of beeping.

I've decided it's better sometimes to be happy with what you've achieved; one working player is more than I hoped for originally when I bought the cab and it's time to call time on laserdisc player repairs and switch my attention full time now to board sets.

I've ordered enough chips from Feebay to populate 2 full sets so the focus of this thread will now switch to that
