It won't fit dammit! : April 2014
Well, it's time for a rather small but important update. Martin came over yesterday to help me get the cockpit into the house now that it's been fully stripped and is nice and (reasonably) light. The plan being that Neil and I would then reassemble the internals outside the cab for one last test and then install everything back inside her for the big switch-on.
Alas this was not to be. Following some careful measurements and role-playing with a piece of cardboard, it quickly became apparent that the cab was too big by 3 inches (!) to get around the passage at the side of the house and through my front door frame. We've hit a brick wall.
I seriously do not relish the prospect of having to buy a generator and trek down to the storage container every time I want to play on the cab so I'm kind of at a loss what to do next. It's been a fab week and I've had a great Birthday so although I'm genuinely gutted, I am fairly upbeat about the whole scenario at the moment.

- Chop it underneath where the floor matting is, install connector plugs for the rear speakers and marquee light and break the cab into two halves
- Buy a generator and come to terms with the fact this will always be "I've got a SW Cockpit in storage"
- Take the front windows out and push the cab in that way - I would need to find a mate of a mate of a friend who knows a builder who wants a day's work to do that though
- Sell it
Windows are pretty easy to take out/replace if UPVC, they are generally fitted with a few spacers & screws, expanding foam and sealant, not worth paying a builder for.
Oh, can you not just have a word with the neighbour/s to get it over the side/back fence?

Their brick build garage is attached to the other side of a 6 ft tall brick wall - it's an option I've been discussing but would mean winching the cab onto their garage roof and getting 4 mates to take weight on this side when we push it over the top....

ah... i feel for you.
i remember saying to the missus about my outrun2,
me, "if only they had designed it this way, then i wouldn't need to take it apart to fit through the door"

Yet they'e happy to take the window out for that new sofa
Taking the window unit out is a doddle, only a few beads to clip out and they just lift out, usully with those suction pads.....however....beware......
About 10 years ago, I was offered a brand spanker leather suite, kind of an ask no questions, get no lies type of scenario....I had no idea of its origin, but it arrived in an unmarked van, and because it wouldn't fit round the hall etc, the window had to be removed.
My mate came round and took out the unit. it was a big window, covered most of the front of the house, but it came out pretty easily. Suite came in through the window no bother, but when it came to putting the glass unit back in, my mate had a terrible time fitting it in....turned out when the window had been fitted (prior to me owning the house), the fitters scrimped on it and never put in a lintel above it. So with the window out, the whole of the front of the house bricks dropped, hence the window not going back in easily. When back in, looking at the front of the house, you could visibly see a sag curve in the bricks. It ended up costing me £3k to get it fixed....so the few hundered quid I save on the suite, was wiped out somewhat, and I put it down to a lesson learnt.
