Good news everyone - the Mathbox error is now fixed! A huge thanks to everyone for helping and especially Andyman for giving up his Sunday today to troubleshoot and test my game board. (It was great to meet you in person Andy after all this time..

)

It was in fact a bad ALU that once replaced fixed the Mathbox error.

The cab is running fine and I've notched up a couple of personal bests!

It was an ALU from Andy's Battlezone donor PCB that helped make this live again

Wow, so just to round this up you ended up having a monitor fault, a power supply fault and a logic board fault? Gotta love old arcade games. Imagine how many hours that poor thing probably spent in an arcade running in the silently corner getting the occasional can of coke poured into it. If I had a time machine I think I'd just go back and buy a couple of my top games brand new and not worry about the rest

Thread necro!!

This actually died again a few weeks after Andyman and Craig fixed the previous faults

I remember ages ago Nad said to replace the edge connector and see if that makes any difference. Well tonight I found myself with a spare hour to kill and I've been dying to use my new crimp tool so......

....one new edge connector fitted!!

The old pins were so loose you could just pull them out and the connector came off far too easy (a bit like Timmy..) The new one is super tight!!

On soak test now.....

Let's see....

So far so good....The connectors are easy-ish - I'd say 'fiddly' rather than anything especially hard. I just didn't rush it and double checked each crimp was good and inserted into the edge casing straight.

Allow 1 hr though..

I'm glad you took my advice, I can't stress how important it is to replace these on Atari cabs. No point replacing components if you are introducing resistance due to poor connection, it just puts added stress and load on the components.
