Hi guys.

So here it is – THE FINAL UPDATE !!! 100% FINISHED.

Well, it’s been quite the journey from start to finish. I’ve just looked back through the thread and it seems impossible to remember the day I started all this and drew up some plans on graph paper. And after a lot of drawing, cutting, sanding, painting and fitting, all the effort is visibly worth it, I think.

So here for you all to cast your eyes and judgement over are a few sun-kissed photos and a very short, shaky, mobile phone video, (which mainly shows ,my reflection, he he!!)

Thanks for keeping me company along the way. Hope you enjoyed it as much as me.

This is an absolutely awesome build - superb attention to detail too - well done.

It has completely inspired me to build my own, I'm part way through the initial woodworking, having cut and shaped the sides and started to attach the inner battening. I was going to ask a bit more about the plex: how did you ensure that the main front piece wasn't wobbly? I can see from your build pics that it's attached at the top and bottom, so how come it doesn't push in if prompted with an errant finger? Also the aluminium strips you used at the top for the marquee and for the top of the main plexi - how did you resolve that area?

Sorry for the questions!

Congrats on the build and for the inspiration.

Basically it is fitted into aluminium U-shaped brackets at both the top and bottom. There are two sheets of 3mm acrylic inbetween which, is sandwiched the graphic. The acrylic was cut on my router table to exactly fit the dimensions of the cab - very snug indeed. The snug fit, coupled with the top and bottom brackets, along with the rigidity of essentially 6mm of acrylic is enough to hold it firm. I dare say if you pushed it hard enough it would move a bit, but I don;t intend to find out!!

Not sure what you mean here, I think (not checked back) that I show on a photo how I epoxy'd the top bracket together using an L shaped and a U shaped piece (both a couple of quid from Wickes), which was then drilled and screwed into the upper shelf. The bottom bracket was the same U-shaped piece fitted into a routed out groove.

My pleasure. It was an enjoyable build, where I was able to take my time. A few peeps have asked me to build one for them, but I think that the fun would quickly leave. It gets loads of play time by everyone who comes round and for someone who lacks the space for loads of full size cabs, it's not a bad compromise.

Neil.

Neil.

Thanks for the replies - the info about the acrylic was especially useful, though I checked at B&Q and a sheet will cost me £30 which seems rather expensive. Going to try and source it from a sawmill nearby instead but otherwise will be on the hunt for a supplier.

The info on the Wickes brackets was also useful - I did see it in the build pics, but the info on the epoxy and what you did with the bottom bracket was what I was after.

Thanks again!
