The info about the acrylic was especially useful, though I checked at B&Q and a sheet will cost me £30 which seems rather expensive. Going to try and source it from a sawmill nearby instead but otherwise will be on the hunt for a supplier.

I get mine from a local glass supplier, I basically go in for off cuts from the massive sheets they get and then cut it to size on my router table with the speed turned right down so as not to melt the edge. I think the total cost for the entire cab was under a fiver.

Failing that option Trent plastics are about the best/cheapest online cut to exact size for you nad really reasonable although the postage kills a bit.

Start a thread to show what you have done so far and then it will give you an audience, whom you can ask for help as you go along.

Good luck

Neil

Another vote here for Trent Plastics. They did 5 cut-to-size sheets of acrylic (different sizes and thicknesses) and they were about 30 quid (I think), delivered.

Oh, one more question re: T-moulding: you used 18mm MDF for the sides and I was wondering where you got your T-moulding from? I was looking at ArcadeWorldUK.com but their T-moulding is 3/4in which works out at a fraction over 19mm. Was this the same as you used? Is the size difference noticeable?

Cheers

Hi pal,

Just adding to the above reply re the cutter; Firstly I buy my T-Molding from T-Mold.com which although it's in the USofA, still works out cheaper than buying from AW, even with shipping and personally I think their stock feels a little less plasticky and more rubbery.

There molding is still ever so slightly more than 18mm, but then if you actually measure 18mm MDF it is normally fractionally over as well.

However when applied, there was an ever so tiny overlap which I just trimmed by running a Stanley knife across the surface with a nice shiny new sharp blade fitted. To be fair, I never even knew you could buy one of those fancy cutters. I think I posted some photos earlier in this thread when I trimmed the 3/4" molding to fit the 12mm control panel.

Thanks again for the interest in this thread. Having a bit of a resurgence.

Neil.

Just to say, even though it has been a LOOONG time since I last posted, I AM still working on my cab. It is totally inspired by the work Neil did with his cab as I think that looks amazing. However I am going with a raspberry Pi and emulation to get access to the games I love. I'm also making it a 2 player machine, although I suspect that will be cramped, I still have the option of cutting another CP and drilling it for 1 player and swapping over at some point...

Here's a shot:

(Since then I've recut the control panel to have 2 players with 6 buttons each and moved the player select and credits buttons down to below the CP as the button layout was too limited as it was).

I'll post more pictures at some point.

I'm at the filling and sanding stage now.
