You might have seen the discussion in the eBay section on the job lot that sold recently including the Streets Defender and the Space panic, plus references to cocktail cabinets including Asteroids?
I was intrigued by the volume of cabinets all in one place, and being relatively easy for me to get to, I arranged to see the seller while the auction was underway. On arrival seller, Julian, a lovely chap, introduced me to his collection which was stored away In a garage and also in a summer house at the end of the garden. Julian and his brother used to work with local pubs and clubs, installing and maintaining the machines, and splitting the revenues with the venue. They had a really interesting career in the 80's when they said their biggest problem was emptying the machines quickly enough. The usual issue when a machine was reported broken was that the coin shute was rammed full! Ended up spending an hour with him talking about the old days when I was really itchIng to get in the shed.
Suffice to say what I found that's day, and what was on offer that was not detailed in the auction, resulted in me putting in the winning bid. I'll post pictures of what I found over the Easter weekend as I sort through the hundreds of snaps I took, but the haul included:
- Streets Defender
- Universal Space Panic
- Nichibutsu Space Attack with TBC board
- ? Star Fighter cabinet with TBC board
- Asteroids Cocktail
- Asteroids Deluxe Cocktail
- Moon Cresta Cocktail, converted to Crazy Kong
- Supertest Jamma cabinet with TBC board
- Empty generic cabinet TBC
- Sega Missile Command PCB, cocktail control panels, power supply and innards (everything but the cabinet)
- Asteroids Upright Marquee
- Atari Power Brick
- Asteroids Deluxe PCB with manuals
- Unidentified power board, possibly the Sega
- Bootleg Scramble PCB (Rambler?)
- Piggy backed PCB TBC
- Nichibutsu PCB possible Space Attack
- Unidentified Konami board
- Sega PCB, still TBC
- Taito AM60009 power supply - for Sega Missile Command?
Plus a box of looms, service boards and counters, coin receptors etc.
So for now here is a picture of my favourite bit of the haul so far, the Sega Missile Command Cockail control panels. And yes I will be keeping the Streets Defender and at least one of the cocktails, plus some of the PCBs, the rest I will be posting via the forum to make sure the bits go to a good home and I get some of the auction fee back. I'll also need help identifying all the random boards in the haul.
Cheers
