Last weekend i picked up a Missile Command - on the famous "Duke of Lancaster"
I had only seen pictures of it, but when i got it home, and had some time to expect it closer, it seemed like a _very_ good deal.

I would like to apologies on forehand for the poor quality of the pictures, but my real camera is in Denmark...
Unloaded:
mcr_0.jpg

Inspection of the buttom.. in remarkable good condition, even the T-molding is unscratched!
mcr_2.jpg

The CP is not in good condition, so i hope they will do another run of those on KLOV...
mcr_1.jpg

Now, the sides is really good for such an old game, considering it have lived it´s hole live on a beached ship..
Left side, the best of the sides, only small dings on the edges and next to the CP.
mcr_3.jpg

Right side, light scratches, a few more dings, but nothing serious...
mcr_4.jpg

theres an intact sticker on the back!!
mcr_6.jpg

A closer look at the front reveals a lot of dirt... and the bezel and marquee retainers are rusted....
mcr_5.jpg

Removed CP, Bezel and Marquee....
mcr_7.jpg

decided to "upgrade the cab a bit (paint wise)
Before
mcr_16.jpg

After
mcr_15.jpg

Bezel all dirty..
mcr_8.jpg

Bezell all clear, there´s some small scratches in it still, and some red rust mark after the.... rust... i think if i have had my Novus kit, it vould all been gone...
mcr_9.jpg

Now, the retainers turn, sand the old paint + rust down...
mcr_12.jpg

First coat of primer..
mcr_13.jpg

2nd coat of primer - yes, have placed them on top of a heater, because theres 1 degree at the warehouse atm = sloooooooow drying time..
mcr_14.jpg

After 3 coats of Mat Black, it´s time to put it all together...

Very nice! Yes it was all good deals in the end. Glad we could help everyone.

The blue on an MC is usually scratched up - the blue on that one is _really_ nice.

With a repro panel it is going to look KICK ASS!!!!

Can't believe the condition of that cab. Hope all the DOL cabs are as good as that. Beginning to think that all cab retainers were just designed to rust. Ive seen some that don't look too bad until the old powder coating has been removed. Then you see the extent of the rust underneath.

The game dosent run, but there´s neck glow (yeah...)
Just measured the MC PCB and ARII PCB.... Here´s the results:

MC PCB:
+5V = +3.09V
+12V = -0.71V !!!!!!!!!
-5V = -5.29V OK

ARII PCB
-5V = -5.17V OK
+10.3V = +8.77V !!
-22V = -15.06V !!!
+22V = +15.02V !!!
+12V = -0.57V !!!!!!!!!!!!!
+36VAC = +11.48VAC !!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO WONDER THE GAME DOSEN'T RUN!!...

So, checked the PSU output..
Heres what i got:
Pins 1&2 = 10.3VDC MINE: 10.28VDC
Pins 4&6 = 25VAC MINE: 23.45 VAC
Pins 4&5 = 12.5VAC MINE 11.70 VAC
Pins 11&12 = 6.3VAC MINE: 6.12 VAC

Seems ok(??)
Anyone have a spare ARII for sale? (Working!)

Remember you need the -03 AR2 with missile command, or you need to hack an -02 one. To be hones. it's probably easier to just fix the one you have, there's not that much to them.

Thanks for the info, and i know it's easier to fix it my self, but my solderstation is in Denmark, further more i have 4 working ARII in Denmark as well..

Well the power brick is fine. Try adjusting R8 on the AR2 to get the +5 where it needs to be. If that doesn't work try the 2N3055 transistor that sits in the middle of the heat sink.

The +12 will probably be the 7812 regulator at Q8 (bolted to the big heat sink).

Disregard the +/- 22 as this isn't used by Missile Command.

Edit: Hang on. There's something not right with the 10.3. The 10.3 is an input voltage to the AR2. The 10.3 output is from the transformer. But the 10.3 appears to read ok from the transformer. So it appears as though you are dropping 3 volts somewhere .... between the transformer output and the AR2 input. Worth taking at look at the pins / wiring to see if you can find anything obvious.

Weird. There's nothing between the AR2 10.3 input and the AR2 10.3 test point. I'm not sure why the voltage would drop, but it might be worth getting to the bottom of it.

My knowledge goes as far as power and signal distribution and a pretty basic understanding of what some components do. How they interact with each other is pretty much beyond me. My worry is that somehow the AR2 once attached to the power brick results in the power brick kicking out fewer volts than it should. If thats the case a new AR2 might not solve all your problems. Perhaps someone with greater knowledge might chip in.

Either way, if you can't replace the +12 regulator you'll need a replacement AR2 anyway .... It'd be something else if the game fired up first time once it got the correct voltages ... !

John bud over at j+ has some missile command stuff for sale nos cpo etc....might be of interest to you......
John Bud is registered here too but obviously chose not to offer them here as well. PM him, I'm sure if he still has them then it won't be a problem to shoot him a PM.

When i took this measure i used the GND and +10.3 test point on the ARII

When i did it on the PSU i used P1 and P2
