monitor swap for k7000: 2 dag wires on donor CRT?

it was, until i moved house, perfect picture; but looks like the neckboard flyback was loose..in a way very lucky i didn't power it on with my good,but burned original philips crt.
but after measuring today ,with the neckboard flyback coming lose i think its welded pin 11 (blue cathode) to pin 12( sparkgap ) internally actually on the CRT neck.
not sure if ive got this right,but could i cut pin 12 on the neckboard and float the blue? i know id run the risk of trashing the blue transistor (or more) if the tube went faulty.. but would that work? such a damn nice tube to trash.. and was a difficult find in the first place
