I agree with the many great tunes above I also love 60s/70s The Avengers and The Prisoner tv cult classics ….There are so many …As a dj through winter darker nights from mid 70s - around yr2000, I collected and played many instrumentals some well known tv adoption themes like Van Der Valk - Eye Level for one of several which charted in the hits charts so often got played while topical.
Available on 7” vinyl I managed to acquire lots of them …. HOWEVER MY ON TOPIC THEME TUNE a lesser known one by one of my favourite bands of the time…. BBC CRICKET…. SOUL LIMBO BY BOOKER T & MGs …. one of three northern soul classics I almost wore out? The other 2 , Time Is Tight & Green Onions would sometimes get 2 plays per event!! dual playability great listeners great dance classics too.. the latter being a guaranteed floor filler!! Always followed it with like Jimmy Mac , Locomotion etc to keep them dancing on and on ….. but not tv tunes.
I later acquired a tv themes cd which I can’t just find had all the shows on Stingray, Thunderbirds, Z cars and lots more.. must try locate it? Always loved the up beat instrumentals and have many LPs by bands like Focus & Yes, etc from that era.
There’s still modern tunes I like equally but the nostalgic ones always stir a memory, and most 007 Bond films on tv meet that criteria too!
But google Soul Limbo- see if you recall it?
