Spotted this Universal cosmic alien cocktail at my local tip today! Unbelievable people are junking this stuff rather than offering it up for free on Facebook. From what I could see it looked complete except glass. Tried my best to save but they were having none of it....

Shit. Probably wouldn't let you have it because someone at the tip knew it has value. Expect to see it on eBay, soon. Lol

Nooooooo!! Ok that is painful to see. I would have absolutely LOVED to have that. I've wanted a Universal cocktail cab for awhile. Damn that sucks!

I absolutely HATE the way the tip people in this country wont let you save something like this instead of letting it go to landfill. So much for being eco friendly and recycling eh? Really bugs me that does.

Yeh sod asking them I would have jumped in and grabbed it !!! They wont give you dog shit of there shoes at the tip now adays. I used to go and help myself as I had a friend there who turned a blind eye. I made a fortune of Aiwa cd systems , 99% of them had the same fault as well !!!

What a shame, Keep an eye out they may have it on ebay if you told them it was worth anything.

I would have jumped in like I was saving a drowning baby !! Arms flaring the lot ! lol

Dave.

What a shame, best to ask forgiveness rather than permission in these situations as they'll never say yes and allow you to take any thing but they might have their back turned at the time.

I helped myself to an n64 with mario kart sticking out of it once and thankfully no one noticed.
Honestly I tried haha. The gap between the barrier and the skip is larger than it looks. No way I'd get that out without jumping in lol.

Yup I even called them after and asked if they could put it aside for me to collect. They flat out said no once it goes in that bin noone on site can touch it. Health and safety gone mad.

Yep that seems to be their policy now. I've tried saving tons of things over the years but never been granted. It really is a case of once it's in the skip it's doomed.

Yet forget to fill your green bin and there is uproar. Our country in a nutshell.

Crikey, sad sight !
Hard to believe it won’t get pulled out of there by the workers at the tip - have got to know the guys at ours well and in the quiet times they are rifling through each bay and pulling stuff out. No bag of household waste is left unopened - for better or worse !

If it's a corporate run place then no, they will not let you take anything or have the staff help you take anything because the corporation does not want to be held liable for injuries or damages sustained. That includes removal of the item, loading, getting it home, turning it on and electrocuting yourself, or injuring your eyes on some dodgy 80's cabinet artwork.

They fear absolutely any litigation whatsoever, and you know why? Because we live in where there's blame there's a claim Britain.

I worked for an international corporation once as an electrician / engineer. I needed to use sharp tools daily to cut stuff but all blades were banned onsite because a worker once cut themselves and sued. They also scrapped fully working electrical items such as test equipment, power supplies and oscilloscopes for the same fear of being sued.

Of course I used to have to trolly the equipment out to the WEEE bin, where it used to fall off the trolly right near my van, just outside of CCTV view.

i'm not sure workers at the tip are the type of people who understand the value of cabs/machines/anything

oh they are pretty well up on the stuff, I used to spend half my weekends at mine buying stuff, yeah some were dumb and not interested but most had a lovely sideline of selling anything they could get, trouble is bigger stuff was an issue for them to take like an arcade cab, one guy was taking bench ends which he sold in lots, catalytic converters which he took straight to scrappy, any consoles and carts which he sold straight to local retro games shop and a lot more

Ones not so interested in that just looked for small stuff like Gold, Money, Watches etc one saved up his gold for 1.5 years and got £1700 scrap price, unfortunately before the 2007 when they shot up like I was told would happen

Was an absolute gold mine at the tip back then, B&O hifi, 500 quid BMXs, Sega Wondermega, Fruit Machines, Arcade Cabs

Yeah my local tips run by Viridor. They basically have their own army there. Cameras and staff everywhere.

I turned up in a van once to get rid of a tired sofa and they turned me away saying the vehicle isn't permitted 🙄 Guy told me I can strap the sofa to the roof of my car and then that's fine to bring it in. Hows that safer🤣? They have to follow the rules even if they make zero sense.
