Turf Masters is a much better name.

Never!

This new version has the Scotland course on the cart as well. It was originally NGCD only.

Imagine if these REALLY take off and you end up being able to pop into Argos and buy brand new AES games in 2026/27!!!

I mean, it’s possible as they are supposedly releasing games in batches.

What a time to be alive!!

To be honest I think an absolutely perfect 1:1 replica of the console and that giant joystick is worth £179 even if they had nothing inside and was just to sit on your shelf. The Neo Geo was/is a thing of beauty. These are a bargain.

I’m REALLY interested in the stick internals. The originals used a Seimitsu LS-22 or at least a clone, but they haven’t been made for decades.

But yeah, the Neo Geo was just about perfect in every way. Even just looking at it, you knew it was a premium/luxury item!

Can’t remember but presumably then it’s a different ROM to the one VGE was talking about last week as IIRC you got Scotland but lost one of the original courses?

I pre-ordered the white one with Metal Slug. Couldn't resist. Hopefully it'll lead to some new games being released. I've got the 2600+ they did and it's a thing of beauty (granted that was in an Amazon flash sale for less than £40), but this seems good value for money at full asking price. Might order a couple of games from Amazon.

I love this as a way forward - don't bother trying to make new consoles, just accept that some of the old ones were as good as it gets, so remake them and start putting games out again!

Ah the one that got away
I’m most likely going to have to buy one for that reason alone

It must be the only time you could have the arcade (mvs) version ,but get more excited by the home version

There’s not even a game on it that I would say I truly need
Just this incredible itch that’s been there for decades to own one

Is this my chance 🤔

Wonder if it will play the 138-1 carts? The Atari 2600+ plays original carts but can’t handle a flash cart, well you can load a single game in one but that’s it…

You can get a multi cart for the 2600+ now called the unocart+, has a little display and toggle wheel to select games instead of the onscreen menu from the original unocart.

Posted above on this - but I think they will always remain very distinct markets - it's either original or it's not. Be interested to see what all the neo.geo forum ****ers are saying about it or getting their knickers in a twist...

What was striking on all the YT videos was the amount of comments along the lines of: $90 for a cart?! F*** off or words to that effect. When ROMs are 'free' they seem to think everything should be. Man I'm getting old and cynical but so many seem to think they are entitled to everything for nothing...

People talk about a mint genuine AES Metal Slug being $20k+ or whatever but does anyone ever pay that for an old AES cart? I guess so.

I think the new system if it actually delivers what it says is an amazing creation but just like FPGA, ROMs and emulation I just love owning the actual original stuff that has been there and done it. But for me that's MVS - that was no more than £10 - £30 a pop BITD.

I think this is great and ordered the pack with the games.

I’ve got a fairly hefty AES collection (90 or so games. I really couldn’t care too much about the tech inside it because ultimately the console costs £180 and gives me a backup to my original. Plus for that money you get a controller which is backwards compatible. An AES unboxed controller is probably £40 on a good day. So £140 for a, hopefully, more reliable AES with different features.

As for the games, only 3 of them I’d put in the bracket of, Neo geo wise, affordable. The rest multiple thousands or didnt get an AES release (shock troopers)

If they can prove that the cart can be produced en masse, it will hopefully lead to places like bitmap bureau making the games under license and someone else making the carts. Which opens up huge opportunities for new games at lower cost.

I don’t get why you’d sh*t on it. If it tanks the value of my games, thats my problem. At least I’ll hopefully get some that were totally out of reach drop to my price range.

If it doesn’t have exact hardware inside, who cares it’s £180.

If the games are repros, so. You can’t buy a convert cart of Shock Troopers for under £120.

Ultimately, do you want to play the games in their original format without the concern of reliability, needing an arcade machine or dropping your mortgage on them, whilst also getting a lovely piece of kit which is licensed. If so, crack on.

Regarding the morality of the owners (Saudi’s). That’s fine if you object but don’t ever buy a petrol car!

Wow Exciting news !
Hopefully the Fans out there get what they want .it would be fantastic for the entire catalogue to be released and new games being developed for the system. I am fortunate enough to own a lot of Neo Geo (MVS/ Japanese AES) but the list of launch titles alone is tempting me..
