i just ordered the ultimate version. 10 games at 70 quid each means im getting the machine, 2x sticks, pad, mem card and some kinda storage thingy for free.
Im mainly a MVS collector but have 20 or so AES carts.
Interested in what voltage it runs on. if 9v, it could power my furrtek adapter so i can play mvs on it.
I own a mvs and aes consoles now and rhis just gives me more options. Interested if they release more games beyond the 10 mentioned

sure to be some bootlegging/counterfitting going down along the line if these work perfect on original hardware. Wonder if it will bring the prices down on the originals at all…

Yeah that bundle is tempting especially if you need/want games controllers etc. Also thinking the same, I just got my furrtek adapter and works like a dream.

Side note: did you 3D print the casing for the adapter or leave as is?

I'm happy enough with my MVS(s) and existing games so it's not really for me.

The usual contradicting guff in the specs though. Wish they wouldn't do that and just say it's something like an ASIC running decapped customs and models of 68k, Z80 and YM2610, rather than this 'not emulation, not approximation' crap. Folk would still buy it. It runs original games, and looks and sounds 1:1, that's what matters.

yeah, i liked the look of it but i am calming down a bit, seems like this will be something the flippers will be all over in a flash

I bought the original black one with Magian Lord. Free postage too! It does all seem a bit to good to be true. The fact that you can play an use original carts, joy sticks, memory cards etc on this and the new carts, joysticks, memory card on original hardware is just amazing! You can play it on crt too!

As it's out the end of November it means that some of us will finally be getting the christmas present that almost none of us got in1991 :)

i did do the 3d print. fits great. If you need one i can print you one from furrteks site and post it out. It feels sturdy when dropped into an og aes.

I think is safe to assume they have the schematics of all the custom chips that were in the AES original consoles. Puting everything in an fpga shouldn't be a problem at all.

Well that's it, you can't go saying you're not an 'FPGA approximation' by putting the same stuff in an ASIC instead.
And you can't take models of the CPUs and sound chips and stick them in something and say it's not an emulation. It is. (But it's not a dirty word anyway, it's just dodgy marketing).

I’m getting more and more sceptical about this TBH. At the end of the day it’s not going to have large PCBs with dozens of chips and caps and carts full of banks of ROMs. Whether you call it FPGA or not or however they recreate it, it’s hardware emulation in a pretty case. The carts are not so far removed from AliX repros but presumably in nice cases and with proper manuals and better labels.

What‘s the real difference?

It’s a full repro system and games nicely packaged (if it all actually turns out like the renders) and ridiculously well priced compared to ORIGINAL SNK manufacturer but I really don’t think it’s going to have any real effect on the original SNK NG market.

Lots will still just want to buy the repro console and stick a 161 in 1 in it anyway so why not just go full FPGA and ROMs for free?

I think with a lot of this, when you've got a stamp of authenticity from the manufacturer (well it's licensed from whoever owns the brand), it carries a lot more weight than what's inside it, or what marketing makes you think is in side it.

I think I remember compilation PCBs by Taito being worth a fair whack, despite being 20 years after the original games, simply because they had Taito on them. It's a sometimes licence to print money. And I don't mean that totally dismissively, I often quite like the idea of modern hardware with a stamp-of-approval.

They've done that before in different forms, I guess. The Neo Geo X handheld thingy, and those mini arcade cabinets too.
Perhaps they saw how much the carts re-sell and saw there's a hungry audience for the real deal... as for how real it is, time will tell!
