Unreasonable gripe: I hate the video reviews that discuss accuracy while steering an on-screen crosshair. If you're using the gun as a glorified mouse it doesn't count!

From what I gather these options are accurate enough though. After past disappointments I think I want to see someone quick aim>shoot through Point Blank Insane on a big screen before I truly believe them.

I really miss the 50" Point Blank DX they had in the arcade round here.
Not an unreasonable gripe. It's what disappointed me about the Sindens. I've watched so many people do videos about accuracy and to be honest if you line up the sight and click the trigger the Sinden is really accurate the problem is flicking the gun from the right to left and the aiming moves like a mouse with significant drag. In fact sinden instructions tell you to set your mouse speed on a pc to max. Which makes me wonder why they don't use a virtual touch screen driver instead. I guess I'm more talking about games that don't have a cursor like point blank and I'm just interested in accuracy when I hit that trigger. I've always thought about getting another option like gun4ir but felt burnt after buying the sinden. The comparison test really needs to have the guns in some sort of turret like mechanism where you can test the aim at full left extent then try it again with it being sprung from right to left and fires when it hits the same spot left and see if it hits at the exact same point. If you did this with sinden the test shot would be perfect however the shot where you flick it from right to left would be at the 80% mark. The sinden is good for those arcade games that have a gun on a turret and you mainly use the cursor to aim but the sinden is not suitable for point blank. Do you know if any of these guns are actually suitable for point blank?

You've described exactly how I've felt, especially the sweeping drag. It doesn't matter much when repeatedly shooting a big monster on the screen but for a shooting gallery game you need to quickly move and shoot. The Point Blank endgame castle is pretty much impossible unless this is perfect.

You're right, you never see a good test for this aspect. I see tests and comparisons for trigger response, but that's not an indicator of how well the positioning, speed and responsiveness work in unison. As you say it'd have to be rigged up to some sort of elaborate turret to demonstrate numbers on this.

However I don't want to be too negative when from what I hear the new options are great, and if I actually tried them I might not have anything to moan about.

I still havnt really used my sinden since I bought it , just seems like a lot of agro setting it up. I've tried building a gun4ir too and that's not working right , solenoid clicks once then gets stuck , It got so hot it melted my 3d printed holder (great) and I couldn't get the IR Led's to register my calibration properly.
At this point I'm sick of lightguns to be honest , was so much easier with CRT.

BTW do you have to stand a certain distance back when using gun4ir ? 42" screen as im trying to use it in quite a confined space.

Thanks

Im using a 40" TV and stand about 6 or 8 foot away from it.

Where did you get your LEDs from and what type are they? Can you see them when they are turned on when using a phone camera?

Which MOSFET are you using? It should be a IRL540 not a IRF540 or IRN540.

Are you using a fisheye lens? Even with one of those you would need to be a meter+ away from the screen of that size, you tend to find the crosshairs will jitter around if too close as it can't see all the emitters.

Add to Watch ist. Just sticking to my Teknoparrot (Rambo etc) and wiii setups at moment while see how this continues to develop. I really fancied a sinden but more I see the more I just dont need the hassle.

Don't get Sinden.

Either get RS3 if you want pre-built, or get Gun4IR if you want to build anything into a gun.

Hi , I got them from aliexpress, I'm also using a IRL540 from aliexpress. I bought some of those pre made leds to try and save myself some time. I can see the leds on my phone camera . I'm using a 42" screen and probably standing 4ft back. Thanks

The LEDs from AliX are usually 20mA. The proper LEDs you should use are 100mA.

Also the IRL540 from AliX are sometimes bad and could be why your recoil circuit is failing. You can buy a decent one from RS with some OSRAM LEDs too.

I would check all soldering first and if OK, try replacing rhe IRL540 with a decent one from RS.

No, it's these LEDs:

I'm selling a kit of the components for 4IR, or pre-buiilt, with or without cables, if it helps:

The MOSFET is this

Ok , that's great , thanks. Yeah , my leds look no where near as bright as yours. I've got some of those led boards so I'll make some up.
Yeah, everyone who bought the AliExpress 4IR always seems to have problems with them.

If you're going to build with the OSRAM LEDs use 10 Ohm resistors so they run at 100mA.

Happy to help any time.

I got the mini terminals from eBay.

I've just got the Sinden and am a bit disappointed with it. It doesn't seem any better than the AimTrak, and I have to sit quite far back from the TV for it to work properly. I did just find a USB2Gun on ebay so looking forward to trying that with a CRT.
How did you get on with that USB2GUN setup?

It's the one without the jamma connector. Hopefully will be able to test it out in the next couple of weeks.

Got one myself which I've had quite a few years and still haven't tried it yet, got CRT gun cab with some jamma PCBs and wanted to have both options in it with the USB2GUN snd PC. i hadn't seen the Jamma type previously as that may have been a better option in my case, though that depends on how good it works, if it's really good like playing real jamma boards with light guns i'm probably not going to end up using the original pcbs.

I had the Philips CDI with Mad Dog and gun and it was rubbish, delayed air mouse was hopeless playing the game, I don't know why they didn't use light gun back then and that put me off anything IR sensor related for home use. I assume the Sega cabs work well? don't think I've played any to know but makes more sense it would with IR's all round screen but then emulating it with this too is often more issues

So it's CRT mirrored cab for older games then I'm going to use Sinden guns on LCDs in my driving cabs for later widescreen shooting games
