I think I am going to just part it out..

I know a few collectors that could probably take the entire game, so i'll offer it to them as spares for there one.

and I will probably keep the rom board.

I am abit worried about my Rail Chase, switched that on the day and no screen and odd random sounds from it, first time it's not come on working since I repaired the colour problem when 1st got it. It's a worry with rare machines

Thought one of the fixes for Xbox, was a bracket that holds the chips to the board?

Sure thats what happended to my Initial D, put in some Naomi 1 carts like Crazy Taxi, but why are they so tight fitting, wiggling it about to try and get it out, I think has flexed the board and loosened the chip as I then got the slow running with Checkered blocks

So all the Naomi 1 carts have been sanded down round the edges so they go in real easy now, not keep trashing Naomi 2 mainboards

I'd like to see your general pc/console repairer reflow or reball one of these. Without working (a lot) on a scrapper before hand you are onto a looser. It is such a difficult board to reflow you cannot imagine. Chances are someone who doesn't know what's what with these would just end up with an un repairable board.

As for a heat gun, that's very bad news. Just applying heat isn't the key to a proper reflow, especially on something like this. Your just going to end up with a warped mess at best! Worst case you turn the silicon in the IC to jelly.

I've spent a sunny summer afternoon on the phone talking to Ordy about (BGA) reballing and whilst I've done some 'optimistic' stuff, I'd not be working on BGAs without the gear he's talked about.

Maybe when I get my X-ray tube working...
