The palitoy factory used to be in coalville and my dad used to have a TV rental and repair company around that area, so I had quite a bit of starwars action man etc as gifts !!

My best Xmas present ever was a video recorder box just full of new starwars toys, I remeber it now still !
I remeber you telling this story before. Man you must have had some good starwars stuff !

We were so lucky that we didn't have phones and technology to swipe our childhood from us like the kids today.

I've never seen so many fat kids under the age of Ten as I have recently.

Do you guys remember doing this stuff.....

Tree climbing?
British Bulldog?
Ball tig?
BMX ing to the Arcades where you could actually leave your bike outside the Arcade and it would still be there when you came out!
Hedge hopping?
Scrumping?
Knock down ginger? (knock on peoples doors then leg it)
Smoking fags at the age of 12 thinking you were ' hard '
Skate Boarding?

We had it so good, It's hard to believe and sad to see how bad it's got.

If you knocked on somebody's door as a kid and legged it nowadays, there's a high chance you'd end up getting 'bummed'

Knock knock ginger ☺️

We would tie cotton to door knockers and hide in opposite garden over the road .

Any one know Jack Jack shine a light ? My dad tried to explain and I remeber playing it in fields at night but I can’t remeber the rules

knock and run where i lived

i think the same things people of our age say about todays youth were said by our elders before TV was a big thing and computers/games

its all cyclical, everyone is just having different experiences in life, my daughter was asked once by her friends if she wanted to "hang around" the local town centre(not by me, by her friends) and she was mortified

times just move, new times are no worse than old ones, just different :)

I did a Google on ' Knock down ginger ' earlier and saw that it was also called ' knock, knock, ginger ' also ' ding, dong, ditch ' and also ' chappy ' and the best one ' nicky, nicky, nine doors ' if you lived in a Cornish holiday town called ' Nickanan Night '

I guess it all depended what part of the country you lived.

Not heard of ' Jack Jack shine a light ' but it sounds like a laugh!

' Jack Jack shine ' also knowns as ' Fugitive ' amongst other names - we called it ' Fox & hounds '

Copied and pasted

One person is the fugitive.
The rest are the trackers.
The Fugitive is given chalk and then runs out.
The group count to 100 and then start to give chase.
The Fugitive MUST draw an arrow every time they change direction.
They can hide the arrows anywhere as long as they DO draw an arrow somewhere.
The group must find the arrows or listen for the fugitive and catch them before they make it home.
The group can split up but must stay in groups of at least two or three.

Pretty much all of that and much worse  think we should have never been let out the house to be honest
Good job we had cool games in the arcades and C64 else it could have been even worse

The equivalent today's Scrumping is kids going MuckDonald's
Smart phones are the downgrade of humanity with digital dopamine addiction all by design

Back to Happy Place

we used to be down the park making fires with bread and butter to toast
This was awesome photo I found looking for name of local arcade with the classic BMX outside

Oh, God, the mortality...

All of the above except ball tig (instead of standard tig, you had to kick an opponent in the nuts whilst shouting 'tig, you're on'?). And much more.

German Bulldog, anyone?

A 'Knock and Run' derivative we devised was to have four or five of us on a path close to an escape route (woods etc), wait for a driver to come close then pretend to beat the poop out of a volunteer on the floor. Some would drive past, some would slow down and shout, and the real payoff was when one would chase us.

Someone could get a PhD doing that sort of social experimentation.

Not 100% these were meant to be toys
But my first one was the best £35 I ever spent as a child .🤣🤣🤣
Memories of falling off and the exhaust burning into my leg.I was too small to lift it off at the time and on my own
In fairness it was early 80s .and mine was a c70 .

Me and mate I used to play video games with on his Atari 800XL like Goonies, Track & Field, Pengo to name some. well it was school summer holidays and for some mad reason we were wandering around school grounds, there was a skip near caretakers pad and in it a Honda, only I can't remember if it was a 50, 70 or 90 its so long ago, we dragged it out the skip and walked to his house with it, got stopped by a copper asking a load of questions, obviously back then you did see police more but most days you wouldn't yet he just appeared at the right time, well right time after some nosey parker reporting us I'd say, wasn't taken from us having explained where we got it and the Caretaker said we could have it (never saw him lol) and where we going with it as mate lived near farms surrounded by fields

Got it going in no time, throttle wasn't right though as it wouldn't release and I tried to tell him before he jumped on it and went flying down his drive way straight up the pile of gravel at the bottom and into the thorn bush, what a state he was when I helped him out lol, fixed the throttle and we used to tear around the fields opposite his place, was brilliant fun :D
a while after that we found a dumped Lambretta near his place so I took that home but think I sold it someone
