My flat was £53k and on a single income the banks wouldn't lend more than 3x salary as I found out when my girlfriend fucked off after a couple of months 😁 can't quite remember the interest rate but it was significantly higher than today and mortgage payments were nudging £500 a month with the endowment factored in.

On top of that I had the cost of the commute into London. I do remember that I had less than £300 a month spare to eat and socialise which is probably why I ended up with a massive credit card bill at the time 😁

Why the fuck do I find myself googling crt projectors for sale 🙄 if I move stuff around I’ve just about got room for a 14 inch tv/pvm and even then a sub 10 inch would probably be better 😀 I keep looking but keep getting confused by the specs and put off by the ridiculous prices

I chose our bed to accommodate a CRT projector underneath.

It is the way.

Not quite the same but I did have an LCD projector in a previous house years ago. Was pretty great for movies but when I moved there wasnt really a suitable space so I ended up selling it. Paid £3k plus new, sold for less than £300. Still hurts now more than 15 years later 😭 I do still have the screen in the loft though 🤔

Sounds familiar, I was on less than 12k when I bought my house, other half was on piss poor wages with, think I paid 52k but had savings so mortgage was 43k or around that, was paying around £270-300 depending on rate and that was with house insurance was it, was a while a go like
had to borrow a few a few grand off parents when she left after couple of months, I had naff all spare with my shite wages

@Vorbis - I've got too many. Got an ultrashort LCD projector for experimentation purposes, but then got a 30% brighter model, so will flog the first one for a few tenners soon (shameless plug alert!).
I went to get my Ampro CRT projector and the seller gave me a Barco 800 for free, so got two massive 70kg projectors kicking around. Should let the Barco go one day, but it barely works.
Wound up with three 43" Toshiba rear projection CRTs as I love them and felt they needed rescuing. One had to become spare parts, but the other two are my main arcade machine monitors.
And now thanks to my Ridge Racer (and some amazing generority), I've got five 33" CRTs kicking around in various states of disrepair that I'm working on to make three good'uns.

So don't be like me!

I had a Toshiba rear projection set. Forget the exact size but I do remember it seemed bloody massive at the time but was probably about 43”. I loved the picture on it and had it for a few years, sadly I fell asleep with it on and the sky channel menu burned itself into the bottom of the screen 😕
