I can't be the only one, who's noticed the price of CRT tv's go through the roof! 14" tv's that nobody wanted and were usually £5 or Free, are now being sold with £150 price tags! Put the word (Retro gaming) in front of the title and ask even more cash. Most are broken with missing remotes, but that doesn't stop the price craze. They are not rare, as millions were made!!

It won't be long where scart leads and aerial leads are selling for £50!

I gave a 20" one away the other month , But yeh its just people hearing that ' Retro ' Is hot so they stick a ridiculous price on it hoping to hook a complete Knob !

Example :-

John Says "I have lots of shit in my garage", Pete replies "Good look with that !"

John says "I have lots of retro shit im my garage", Pete replies "See you in an hour I can take that off your hands"

Dave.

Same happening with PVM prices BUT... there is a big difference between what people are asking and things that are actually selling etc. Can sort of understand people wanting decent money for PVMs and Trinitrons etc.. if your spending loads on high end retro consoles...relatively speaking decent, now fairly rare, 4:3 crts you use on all of them make sense... but lots chancers on Facebook market place asking £150 for basic 14' generic brand tvs is funny. As say couldn't give them away 10 years ago.

My Trinitron cost 120 quid. That seems reasonable considering what some are being sold for. Bloke was just going to take it to the tip until he looked on eBay. Lol

Can't really blame people for cashing in when they're selling at these prices. You can still find reasonable deals, as well as the ridiculous chancer prices.

Same can be said about most retro stuff: used to be cheap, but the market has changed.

my trinitron i ipcked up was advertised at £100, and i didnt really want to spend that much so kept an eye on it on facebook, i'd had a discussion with the bloke and he was great, telling me how his new GF was pregnant and was making him sell all his gaming stuff...LOL

fast forward a few weeks and he had dropped the price down to 60 quid because she was moaning even more, so i messaged him again and went to pick it up from north wales with a lovely little discount

fast forward another few week and had 2x£20 fines drop through the door for not paying the fee for the bridge both ways

some discount eh!

i think i paid about £10 and £15 for a few local a few years ago(14 inchers), the pair of them got used quite a bit TBH, but are just sat there now not being used, i had an absolutely delicious 21inch that i sold with a Mega Drive, and i regret it so much, none of the foreign consoles would work on it but it was easily the best CRT ive ever had(including multiple trinitrons)

Leaving a TV outside a charity shop unsolicited is fly tipping, unless they have an arrangement for goods to be left.

So removing it is probably finders keepers in law.

I know this as the shop near me has a major issue with people leaving literal junk, because they are too lazy to take it to the recycling centre.

Morally , yes absolutely worth making a donation as would probably have fetched £10-30 if it passed electrical safety testing. Personally I would have gone around when they opened back up to explain the situation.

well many charity shops have a notice saying please don't leave donations outside when closed yet still piles of stuff left in doorway
I've seen people going through it all many times

Technically it's not really the charity shops stuff if it's outside, I've been in 2 charity shops recently when there turning donations away because they have so much

Seeing all the stuff in charity shops these days and considering most of the best stuff is sold on ebay and not in the actual shops just shows the level of money and planet resources that is wasted making all the tat and clothes for Fashion status while so many bang on about saving the planet while doing the opposite and destroying it buying so much through mind control consumerism

It's getting more wild each passing year.

Give it another couple of years and people will want to trade their [insert random broadcast monitor] that they found by a skip in the pouring rain for a low mileage Sierra RS Cosworth.

The [insert random broadcast monitor] was probably thrown out by someone who had it switched on for 24 hours a day and never had it serviced. You'll have to collect it from them as they wont post it due to risks, but unfortunately they live on a remote island in the Outer Hebrides.

So you make the decision to collect it, conveniently delivering your item at the same time. It also saves the environment and saves them any exorbitant shipping costs and you will be getting a top tier item mor3 rarez than witnessing a false vacuum delay in real time.

After you make the 10 hour trek to get to their place, they will make you a cup of tea w/biscuits and proceed to fill your head with stories of how great the [insert random broadcast monitor] is and that they don't really want to sell it but they need the space back, strangely they do have the space to house your item which doesn't cross your mind until later.

During the trek back you hit a speed bump on your road which unfortunately fully separates one of the many dry solder joints which bricks the monitor. You then put the monitor in your mancave and post a picture on Reddit to impress someone who may or may not actually exist, only to find a random Redditor who lives in the Outer Hebrides replies with a picture showing that he has a garage full of them.

Sarcasm and trolling aside, I do love a good sales patter and I wish good luck to people selling whatever they are selling.

getting that warm fuzzy retro gaming glow, well it may not just be your memories flooding back, but the fact your broadcast monitor is putting out face melting x-ray levels that are off the charts which is why it found it's way to the skip, via a recycling company that was supposed to decommission it, via a private sale, via a chain of resellers with a huge mark up. Although to be fair most models have X-ray overload protection built in, but they can be bodged off or fail.
