OK guys - I confess.It was MY board 😞
It was a total non worker when I got it and it has been to Luke (the owner I think) twice.
I will try to dig out any information as to what was done to it and keep you posted.

So......

fixed both I/O Expanders and few trace damage.

Get full boot now, both h screens work. However we still have some possible issues.

1. Visual output is too bright, possibly not that noticeable on CRT but its got bad AV circuit somewhere pulling the colors too high.

2. I'm not 100% the CN2 Jamma interface is working as I don't have the harness, but i've tested the buttons work by shorting the I/O expander outputs and its functions, so that's probably ok, just a note I cannot fully test that.

First time repsir then it worked for 5 mins before the screen went garbled and shut off

Second time it was the 315-5308
Which he had to get from a donor megadrive in Japan I think. Also took all socketed chips out and cleaned them

Interestingly that happens when you directly wire an arcade PCB into a scart socket of a TV. But they wouldn't be that stupid, would they?

That's not your 5-star review is it, Adam?
Might want to add an updated review, if-so.

How Much !!

To be fair its not the price , Its the quality of work. I dont repair for others but if anyone is thinking of sending it there I will do it for you instead !

Not angry Adam , Just disappointed !

If he had done that to me , I would have been straight down there. Probably taken a shit in the top draw of his desk !

Oooof I was going to send him a Sega Saturn to fix, but after reading this glad I didn't. I ended up repairing it myself in the end.

The way he is removing chips from the board is bound to cause damage

Yeah, I don't know how you start pricing repairing stuff you're not familiar with, could easily end up massively uneconomic time-wise (you can see why people just start shotgunning stuff in desperation).

No excuse for doing that to the board though. I've joined copper pipe with less heat and flux.

Yeh its hard , I dont like to see anyone ripped off no matter who it is. Makes me even more angry when its a genuine collector who puts his trust in others.

Ace is a good bloke , He will look after you.

Don't feel bad Adam, there was no way to know he was going to make such a mess of it. He talks a good talk and obviously knows just enough to be dangerous as they say. He has a bunch of happy customers and good reviews etc, maybe when the heat gun doesn't get fired up he does better work.

I randomly saw him on Homes under the Hammer a few weeks back, I don't usually watch day time tv I promise.

I've had a bad experience with Retrosix too. Do not recommend!!! He took my Naomi2 in for repair. Paid the money and got it repaired and sent back...returned worse than when it left me (semi-working originally, totally dead on return). Sent it back again and he said he'd have another go, then got back to me saying he had spent hours on it and it wasnt working but instead of me paying for his labour, he would just take the naomi2 as payment instead. Relutantly agreed. I was now down a naomi2 with a slight fault (still played naomi1 games) plus £80 and postage. Few weeks later he messaged me saying he had got it working and tried to sell me it back for £100 more than i could buy a new one from aliexpress. I waited until i had a few beers then let rip. Hes the only person i've had any dealings with while being in this hobby that i would absolutely go out my way to warn people against.

He took your cab as payment after he couldn't fix it??

That's outrageous!

Appreciate the comments I was going to have a few items looked at, but certainly holding off for now.

Do we have a thread somewhere on the forum with recommended companies/individuals for repairs, that would be handy.

I've been caught out by the 'no fix no fee' repairers before. All of a sudden the 'offer' no longer applies but they will conveniently keep you item as payment.

It's all about reputation for businesses in a niche market. My local computer repair shop spent hours looking at an issue and attempting repair on a MacBook and could not fix it, but diagnosed and (a failed intermittent gpu) and did not charge me. Sure they lost money in the short term but I was sure to go back to them in future and sent others their way.
