Not sure if this has been mentioned before but what is your own feedback like? Could be the seller just didn't want to sell to you for certain reasons. (I don't know what your feedback is actually like, it could be 50,000 positive for all I know but that is sometimes the reason a seller pulls out of a sale, that or they have been inundated with questions with someone and thinks they may be a pain when they get the item and it isn't in 100% condition.)
Just under 500 positive, was nothing to do with that just the fact it ended lower than expected

That's true Chubsta. Sellers only get fucked over so much before they learn to protect themselves from alarm bell buyers.

I've been vigilant since about fifteen years ago when I quit ebay for a few years after selling a £250 item to what turned out to be a credit card thief (it was one of those auctions that ended surprisingly high). At the time I was told not to worry by ebay and PayPal, I provided everything I was asked to, proof of recorded delivery etc, but in the end I got screwed over - case closed.

A good example of how I approach ebay now was a couple of years ago when I made a ~£1000 Graphics card sale. PC components are the worst things to sell so I'm extra cautious. The buyer had good and recent feedback at a glance but I looked at his history and it was an ex-dormant account that had suddenly started a £5000+ a day spending spree on Nvidia RTX cards, PS5s and XBox Series Xs. ... Erm nope. I waited a couple of days and then cancelled the sale. I did message to apologise with an excuse though, just in case.

I've gone off on a tangent. I don't for a second think that this type of suspicion applies to this cab sale, but I think the fact I'm going as far to research a buyer's purchase history (I had to look at the sale history of each of his feedback givers) goes to show how wary sellers can be.

For the record ebay is MUCH better for seller protection now. I think the PayPal divorce was a huge step because now buyer and seller hold a separate contract with ebay, rather than with each other - when payments were direct.

That sounds reasonable Phil. No idea myself tbh, especially these days.

I've always honoured final prices (as we would all say)
Actually, the more I think about this that's a complete lie 😬

To be fair to myself I meant I have always honoured auction winners if I have no justifiable reason not to. Which is a bit of a wishy washy statement, admittedly.

I also cancelled an arcade sale once to a very demanding buyer after another ebayer messaged me with the old "Gutted I missed this. Any problems with the sale let me know. I'd love this, I'm local and I can pick up".

This was probably my naughtiest cancellation but the buyer required international shipping, he was sending annoying lists of demands, and there was a bit of a language barrier making communication difficult.

I cancelled the official sale then I told the cheeky message sender "we're on" and we've since become good friends. He organises the Retcon events in Greenford which I've been attending each year when I'm able, and we get together to discuss nerdy topics when he's down my way.

I'm sorry about all these walls of text I'm spamming here. Ebay is my trigger word. 😬

Would the seller have actually lost that much selling it for that.
Didn't think these machines would really be worth over £800, or am I totally wrong.
I think there's a bit of an Outrun effect, where it's often assumed all the other Sega scaler games are now worth similar amounts (when they're not, bar maybe Galaxy Force).
Not that I know what thinking went on behind the scenes here. The seller was always a decent guy when I spoke with him (not in a while).

Seller has messaged me, hopefully I still buy the machine but not at the price I won it at unfortunately, he said he had to canceled my purchase as after eBay fees it was too low to accept, I originally was willing to pay more than what I bid and I really want the machine so we will see what happens next, hopefully I still get it!

In my view that’s some bull And is simply known as being a “messer”
But sometimes you may give in to the devil to get what your after. Not everyone will.

This is exactly why governments say they “do not negotiate with terrorists”
As soon as you do, they all will do it

I'd forward a copy of the message to eBay and follow up with a telephone call. He deserves to be banned.

A million worse things to worry about imo.

If that was my fucker threshold for taking action I'd never get anything else done (like building walls of text here).

Cancer's probably worse than diabetes but doesn't mean I shouldn't worry about both :D

It's one thing having a suspicion as to why someone has done something but with documentary proof I'd definitely take it further. Theres no way would I want to deal outside ebay with someone that had already broken their commitment.

OK... I might get shot down in flames for this reply... and to put it in context... I have never actually not followed through on an ebay final sale price....

But.... ebay charge quite a lot for setting a reserve. So is it so bad to "work round" their fees? If the seller had set a reserve, you still wouldn't have won the auction and ebay would be bit richer.
Pretty Much what i've said before, Its really annoying when sellers refuse to let it go when it's supposed to be a legally binding contract yet ebay will do nothing, and no legal people are interested either, they can cancel it and you can't even leave feedback to say theyre an arse but at same time i agree ebay make it harder buy charging for reserve fees, it makes no sense when you start auction at 99p and set reserve at £800 you pay crazy fees yet you can start the auction at £800 no cost

I was shocked the guy let me have the Turbo Outrun Cockpit considering it sold previously for £1000+ and then he had to relist and sold just over £200

It's not how it should be but these days as said, BIN and no one buys it, Auction sometimes ends at stupid price then people don't pay like time wasters on my After Burner, Auction sometimes end stupid low so seller doesn't honour sale, it's a pain for both parties
