See the other thread
where this cab was spotted:

http://www.ukvac.com/forum/nice-enduro-racer-project_topic359920.html#1017393

Hi all, here it is, my Enduro
Racer Project.

I found this cab while looking through
completed items on eBay on a search within 50miles of my home which is in Corfe
Mullen. I sent a message to Shun on UKVAC who pointed me to the thread above
where it had already been spotted and discussed. I read the comments and despite
learning that its was probably screwed, i decided to take it on! I sent a
message to my local buddy Robotgreg to see if he was free for a road trip to
pick up a game. Within 30 minutes we were on our way. The seller is located
just inside Dorchester, over the bridge, left at the lights and were there.
Well what a place….. it was a field with one massive barn in the middle surrounded
in caravans and lories. It was in fact a traveling fun fair and the very same
one that came to my local recreation ground for many years. The seller who I was
dealing with via text wasn’t on site but his cousin was who was actually a nice
chap and very helpful, he gave me and Greg a good look round for anything else
that we were interested in and wasn’t in a rush, if you can imagine a complete
fun fair squished into this barn but missing arcade games apart from the Enduro
racer. I asked to do a deal and he texted the seller with my offer of £120 and
we did a deal at £140. The chap did all the hard work of getting the game out
which was a long and awkward path to the car, this was nice of him. Ps there is
a MINT Sunbeam Rapier under a cover that has been parked in the barn for 30
years and with the inspection I gave it, I believe him. It’s complete and not
rusty. If you want the info PM me. £5000 he said. I paid the chap and we were
on our way.

Well done for taking the plunge mate. Once all of the metal parts have been cleaned it should look great. Looking forward to seeing it restored.

Looks like there is a bit of mould in the cab there so make sure wear a mask when you are cleaning it up

The artwork looks great after a quick clean up.

A friend of mine offered to put the steering mechanism through his grit blaster at work so i started stripping the main bits that needed cosmetic attention.

Yep glad it's come home to a community member, because that ebay seller appears to have been as sketchy as hell over the past months. I have family and grew up in north Dorset, so it's very possible that I played on this very machine as a kid

I had to stop stripping the steering because i don't have the appropriate security drivers, i have a set but this one isnt in there, can anyone identify this type so i can go and buy one tomorrow allowing me to pass it to my friend for blasting. its the lower ones i dont have, the top ones i do have.

I originally thought the dash was ally because of the corrosion on the surface but after i got it off i realised it was just wood grooved out and metallic tape on the front, that will be easy to restore!

I did a quick search for Sega Arcade Security bit and came across this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/DelTex®-Nintendo-Security-Screwdriver-GameBoy/dp/B00RJJ1ABS/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_60_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=8KBPYZF00484Z4XXSQYE

I'm not sure if it is the correct screwdriver but it looks similar.

The lower bolt looks like it'll need this sort of driver style (can't guess the size)
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/screwdrivers/4447908/?origin=PSF_438898|acc

I'd probably drill it, out of impatience.

I thought the games don't boot with a suicided 68000, so the processor may be fine (I'd hot-swap the battery though).

Joy. Hitachi job in the middle, CR2032 battery inside. No idea of the route to take once it's already gone though. Decrypted roms likely required...

hope this link helps:

Thanks, this is fantastic news! looks like it will all be ok! lets see if i can check the board, Shun explained how to connect the board to a TV SCART and 3v to look at the picture and see if the board is working, ill need to find someone who can repair these boards in addition to the new Decrypted chips if its faulty. ill try this tomorrow.

Actually looking at the price and the fact that i dont know the size for sure, ill do what you suggest and drill it out.

That's a cool design. I hadn't realilsed they did one between the full DLX and the stand up. Looks like it's one of these:

Send the PCB to mark at retroclinic. He will get it working for you and change the processor out. Given you have your hands full with the restoration, you'll probably want to save time by not building a test loom yourself just to confirm the board doesn't boot.

I wouldn't feel overly threatened by the Hitachi CPU. It probably is dead, but in general I've found the batteries in those things to be way more reliable than the SRAMs on many of the Sega PCBs! Sometimes I've repaired a board, slotted the original Hitachi back in and found it to be working after 25-30 years :)

Certainly it's the one Rich - although I don't recall the seat being quite so much like sitting on a Toblerone bar back in the day! :)

I wouldn't advise you drill those bolts without trying to free them first, you could end up damaging the mount if the drill slips,if you soak them in wd40 overnight you may be able to hammer a slightly smaller socket on them and free them that way,if you don't have the correct bit to use
