Thanks to a heads-up from AndyGeezer, I picked up a couple of well loved F355's this week. Initially, I figured I'd just rob the good bits for my existing OR2 cabs. However, Outrun2 & Vamino convinced me I should at least try and restore one of them given they are reasonably complete. A few pictures when they first arrived: I had to strip the pair of them down to store them... Nice surprise to find that all of the innards were still there. No idea at this point what does and doesn't work but hopefully there are enough working parts to make one good one. I've now stripped the machines down to their bases. Once I've removed everything out of the better base I'll get all the metalwork dropped off to the powder coaters. Hopefully in around 10 days I'll have some nice shiny metalwork back In the meantime, I decided to start stripping down the dashes to clean them up. I already had two sets of newly powder coated M3 dash parts - perfect for transplanting the F355 dash onto. Both dash plastics have fag burns (to be expected). One is reasonable, the other is pretty knackered. Time for a quick strip and clean...
Annoyingly, the only thing that stopped me getting this finished tonight were the two tiny little grub screws on the steering shaft that hold on the cog that drives the other cog attached to the potentiometer. I'll have to drill the grub screws out and re-tap another hole. Frustrating! Also tried the motherboards hooked up to my Naomi. Seems one of them is certainly cheesed...
I'll add some more pictures when I strip out the base to go to the powder coaters. Watch this space! |
