Stripped the base this evening ready to take to the powder coaters. Had a nice little surprise...

quad-amp.jpg

A 4-channel amp. I could have sworn it was just a 2 channel amp when I looked last! Outrun2, you were right (again!!). It seems to power on ok (green LED lit). Unfortunately, I didn't have any speakers to hand to test.

Haha luvvly jubbly, I have often seen them fitted in F355 cabs even though I've never seen front speakers fitted (so no need for it). I don't suppose all connectors were wired in? Did the cab have a VTS board fitted or individual pots/buttons on the service panel?

A nice bonus

I've not actually checked to see what is/isn't wired yet. I didn't realise that F355 didn't have any front speakers, certainly explains the lack of speakers in mine.

The cab came with a VTS board - the type with two sets of pots.

I keep meaning to ask... the Model 3 dashboards have two small grilles on them with mounting plates on the back. Were these intended for small tweeters or similar? Anyone know?

Lucky you! I have a nice single amp here if you wanna trade?

I don't know of any games that had those dashboard tweeters fitted, but Model 2 games like Daytona did, so I imagine they may be interchangeable. I've got a set of M2 tweeters but have yet to see if they fit.

updates???

Dropped everything off at the powder coaters Friday. Expect it will be late next week by the time I see anything back.

I've also scanned the base art, bezel and side art and sent on to muddymusic for him to work some magic.

I've had limited success swapping the Naomi's around between the F355 cages. Andygeezer suggested the best way to test them is with a standard Naomi BIOS/filterboard.

Jobs for next week:

  • See if I can make 2 good plastic sides out of what I have
  • Clean wiring looms
  • Test Naomi's individually
  • Clean up/tidy pedals

looking forward to the updates, just out of curiosity what are you having powder coating and what artt what sort cost if you dont mind me asking?>

Pretty much everything metal is getting powder coated. The only metal parts I haven't taken to the powder coaters are: Pedals, Steering Shaft, Castors & speaker brackets :)

As for cost, er, depends how the chap that does them feels on the day. Somewhere between £120 and £160 from past experience. That includes shot blasting as well though. Whilst its not cheap, it would cost a fair bit in materials and time to spray myself and the finish is never as good as the coaters.

I'm hoping to replace all of the art, the existing stuff (other than the bezel) has seen better days.

Waiting for bits to be powder coated so stripped the seat and cleaned it up. Hard to see from the pictures but looks a lot tidier now.

The seat has cleaned nicely mate - what did you use on the cushions?

Good old fashioned "Cif" (or Jif to us oldies). They aren't perfect but a lot better than when they arrived. Clean enough for me anyway.

There is a sub, I've just removed it for the time being to get the seats cleaned up.

Like you say, the art is a little weird. I thought it should be transparent with white lettering but seems to be white lettering on a light blue background. Strange/a bit naff.

What's happened there is someone has peeled off the lamination layer and it's taken all the red with it.

Ah, that makes more sense. I was never sure if the art was transparent or on a red background. Seems it is that latter.

^This.

I've just tried putting a UK F355 seatback sticker on my ID cab seat, the Sega logo is at the same position as yours. Whilst the Japanese art is in multiple smaller sections, the UK art is one big sticker.

I've just noticed there is no footrest on EU F355 cabs, I had to double check my F355 cab and it has one. Also, do any of your pedals have a hydraulic spring on the rear of the brake?

It's still a F355 cab though.

I bet Yu Suzuki would have cussed Sega EU for costcutting on parts when building his baby outside Japan.
