Went to the Game Masters Expo yesterday,

I kinda got hooked on playing Scramble, Only thing is now that I'm home I wanted to keep going but the version I have on my MAME system wont load

Is this just a simple case of downloading a different copy of the rom file? Or do I get a different MAME EMU?

You need the right romset for the version of mame you have.

Yes, but that version of MAME 32 will be numbered.

I've not got a scooby.

I have gone to a site and looking at a command line version number 0.144, as the same site has complete ROM packs all with 0.144 marked.

Would this solve things?

Downloaded over 12gb's! of ROMS and MAME 0.144

And still no working games.

Every game I try to load just flash a loading bar then goes to a back screen.

Then you have a setting wrong, repoint it to the exe and rom dirs, then rescan.

done that, then done it again, then tryed a different rom set. then back to the first one with a different exe

Ok, try just running mame and a few games to make sure it works correctly, will help rule out of it's that or the FE playing up.

I've tried with mame 0.144, 0.160, mame32 in the FE and just going to them direct still can't get he haw.

Well another day and another version of MAME and a ROM pack downloaded and still can't get any of the games to work.

opened the MAME exe, did the scan and aduit. Then selected a rom file and all I get is error message saying that a bunch of files are missing, I don't understand how there is missing files when the scan said that all was working and that I just downloaded the complete rom set.

When trying to run games from MAME without the FE

Get this type of error with every ROM or just a black screen with the FE

Ok, completely nuke the mame dir except for the roms folder, then re-extract mame into there, then run it, then press F5 to refresh the roms, then try launching, see if we can rule out a config file causing issues.

Is there any MAME version that you would recommend?

I don't think it's your version of mame, I think it's that it isn't seeing your roms.

Gonna ask something daft here for a change, Just how big is the ROM set for MAME?

Been looking around and seen people going on about it being 40+GB.

I'm thinking what I have done as I didn't know what the feck I was doing, was I've downloaded the updates for the ROM set and not the ROM's themselves.

A full romset is mahoosive, however with all the sh*te (pinball, gambling machines, pachislo etc) and dupes removed it comes closer to 12 gig.
