Modern cars are so much faster than they were 10-15 years ago. A 1990's Impreza Turbo only did 0-60 in 6.1 seconds.

I imagine driver assists and clever 4WD systems are saving many drivers from hedgerows, Armco and the bumper of the car infront.

Mine was a 2003 wrx. I seem to remember 0-60 was about 5.6 seconds. Bought it to replace a VX220 as my wife (then girlfriend) complained you couldn't get much shopping in it.🙄

If you want electric then consider leasing or at least PCP. They depreciate a lot and leasing stops the risk of losing a fortune. The tech moves on that quick, range rising with each revision and fear of old battery's mean many do not want to take a risk with old versions.

Leaseloco often have amazing deals, especially near the end of the tax year when they need to move on cars to avoid fines for undersold EV targets.

This is what we went for too. Know what you’re spending and get the latest tech in 3 years. We figured the deprecation on our previous car that we ‘saved’ and the cost of running is so much less that we are actually about neutral on costs.

We have 2 EV's at the moment (Honda e ny1 and a MG ZS) one on PCP and one on lease. £0 down on both cars and £500 a month (for 2 cars). Saving nearly £500 a month on fuel as it's a fiver to charge each car on Octopus Intelligent rather than the £300 each on fuel before on the commute. No tax ATM and no MOT as they are new. Free servicing on one and cheap service on the other. It's the cheapest motoring I have ever had.

If I bought the Honda I would have lost £20k.

I can't recommend EV enough as long as you can charge from home and you have less than a 50 mile commute.

So in the end you went for something not on your list

I've hardly seen a Mustang E which is good as I like having something not many others have, stand out from the crowd

Looks wise as I don't like style of most modern cars ICE or EV but the Polestar is one that stands out for the right reasons and interesting name too

What is a polestar in astronomy?
A pole star is a visible star that is approximately aligned with the axis of rotation of an astronomical body; that is, a star whose apparent position is close to one of the celestial poles. On Earth, a pole star would lie directly overhead when viewed from the North or the South Pole.

The Honda E I thought was interesting looking and cool out of the smaller ones and rear wheel drive which is odd as Honda don't do many, though they do in ones like JDM Honda Beat and S660 and I was surprised to find out the other week they made a full Electric car in 1988

My Brother had Mustang Mach e on day test as all he bangs on about is Tesla S Plaid acceleration times but he's always had Fords as he got 25% off new ones, he says he Focus RS that he raved about is crap now so he took me dad out in the Mustang, I don't know 100% which one but me dad said it wasn't the GT so either Premium that's 0-60 in 6.4 or 0-60 in 4.3

So he said to me Dad this is well fast ain't it, me Dad said well it doesn't feel as fast as your Sapphire Cosworth and me brother thinks he's mad and said flippin eck ya got a G Suit or summat, surely it had to be the faster one at 4.3 seconds as it would be slower than his RS, but his Cosworth's weren't standard anyway, 1st already had stage 2 he said and they flippin shifted so I cant see it but much different anyway and his RS has Mountune which is why he talks Tesla all the time

Only good thing with Tesla to me is very low Drag Coefficient and they don't bother with mock grills or anything resembling a grill which I just don't get at all on EVs, If it was buying something I would want it to be sleek and futuristic looking but to be honest you can leave me in the Analogue Age :)

yep, one of those moments where you go to look at a car, look at a load of others and then just fall in love with one

as for the lease thing, not a chance with this one, it would have cost me about £600 a month for a 3 year contract, so at the end of it i would be £21k out of pocket

the car i have bought however, i reckon it will lose about 6k in value in the same 3 year period

i'm also getting about 10k back for my old car when i sell it, i can understand some people who lease, but its a contract you get stuck in if you are obsessed with warranties

Electric cars are rwd more commonly than ice something you have to respect more than a fwd car & have decent tyres.

The hardest part of going back to fwd is the coming of a roundabout & having to use the steering wheel.

Grammar was never my strong point.

Having had a RWD car all my driving life, I'll state I've still rarely got the guts to boot it off a roundabout in the wet. Probably get shopped by someone with a dashcam these days 🫤.
Saying that, I accidentally slid the 508 (4WD) around a roundabout with mum in the other week, doing about 20mph. Genuine mistake. standing water or something. She wasn't impressed.

the other year some muppet decided to take his F355 out when it was raining quite bad, I passed it buried in the barrier on M6 :(

I did enjoy my 4x4 in the snow when I first got it, was fun being able to leave BMW at the lights, I just put my foot down to see what happened and once the rears kicked in It just took off. When my brother had his XJS 5.2 I told him to floor it down the dual carriage way where we lived, was only slightly damp and back end started snaking, I would have felt bad if he'd lost it having told him to do it
