Most iconic arcade music?

Lots of great music through the arcade years, but what's the one that screams "I'm in an arcade!" to you?

First level of rtype, the "pac a pac" sounds of pacman (not really music), and the killer instinct "coming home in 1995" intro are good choices for me.

But, surely the trophy has to go to daytona, right?

Duh, Duh-Duh-duh, Duh-Duh, duh-duh, Duh-DUHHHHHH, DAYYYTONAHHHH!

I'll add one more that most probably wouldn't know, "she's lost control" from virtual on.

I used to play it a lot, and particularly remember living in Boston and having a queue of people trying to beat me on it. Teenager me beat the ever loving jesus out of those children :p

Space harrier (sfx & music) Walk into Mr B’s and you could hear this anywhere in the arcade :) even when it was at the back and down to 10p per play.

Double dragon (music)

Main event - I used to go in the arcade that was at the side of madam tussauds in Blackpool quite a bit and my Nan used to sit in the cafe in there which had a main event next to it. I used to sit with her a while before being unleashed on the games. “the main event” I must have heard that a thousand times so it’s kinda embedded Del Griffith2020-02-24 14:45:03

I love the late 80s FM synth sounding tracks:

- Double Dragon still sounds fantastic to me.

- AfterBurner has an awesome soundtrack. I actually prefer it to OutRun, but only because I've heard OutRun too much. Has to be the full melody versions though, not the cut-down versions.

- There are plenty of other games that have a great track, but aren't particularly consistent in terms of their execution. Turbo OutRun's 'Rush a Difficulty' is brilliant (and one of the few highlights of the game). I'm porting that over to OutRun for the next Enhanced Edition, alongside a few other tracks!

Wait.... what, you're all crazy!

Wonderboy - great game, but the music drives me insane! It's the baby shark of arcade game music!

And Operation Wolf doesn't even have any music, apart from a short burst in attract mode!

And Rainbow Islands (again great game), is just Somewhere over the rainbow on loop!

Tehkan music, specifically Bomb Jack, Starforce and Tehkan World Cup (the little tune that plays when a goal is scored!).

Namco Shoot Away was always loud and clear in my local arcade, as was the bong credit sound that Atari games made.

Also, the one machine that could always be heard above all others - Moon Cresta.

Indeed it does, A few weeks back when shenmue 3 came out I had no idea the treat that was in store for splitting a log down the centre :) I had a grin a mile long......until I missed and the music switched back to standard.
