Tehkan music, specifically Bomb Jack, Starforce and Tehkan World Cup (the little tune that plays when a goal is scored!).

Namco Shoot Away was always loud and clear in my local arcade, as was the bong credit sound that Atari games made.

Also, the one machine that could always be heard above all others - Moon Cresta.

Another great shout, Bombjack and Moon Cresta seemingly cut through everything. Iconic sounds indeed

Probably Outrun - Magical sound shower. I would always hear that in any arcade I went into in the 80s and 90s.

Track & Field music and sound effects are quite iconic I think too.

Space Harrier "Welcome to the fantasy zone, get ready" is one that I always heard but not so much the music.

While not so much iconic, Ghouls n Ghosts 1st level, Rastan 1st level and Double Dragon 1st level music are some of my faves.
Also Wonderboys repetitive tune gets in your head so much that my dad and sister still remember it to this day as I used to hammer it on the Master System as a kid.

Almost forgot Shinobi. Again it's the 1st level music, love the sound when he jumps too.

Gradius music always made me gravitate towards wherever it came from!

The fire dragons dell yell on the 3rd level of Salamander made most people turn around to see where it came from.

But the most iconic 'screams of arcade noise' is the Pole Position attract noise......Beep.....Beep.....Beep.....Boop!

Wait.... what, you're all crazy!

Wonderboy - great game, but the music drives me insane! It's the baby shark of arcade game music!

And Operation Wolf doesn't even have any music, apart from a short burst in attract mode!

And Rainbow Islands (again great game), is just Somewhere over the rainbow on loop!

I'd have to agree with the above... next up you'll be voting for the 'theme' from 1942

That said I do like Starforce and mad planets and they are 'somewhat' repetitive. For variety try Strider, Side Arms, R-Type or Dragon Breed.

In terms of what arcade music I heard repetitively at an age where it may have made an impact I seem to recall all ops who had a spy hunter set the Peter Gunn attract music to super loud, and also endless looping of the Dragons Lair attract mode ditty.

I moved to a seaside town in 1986 and aside from the ones you've all already mentioned, I tried to think of what came into my head first and it was the jolly theme from Skykid. Could always hear when someone was playing that.

I have fond memories of playing all those mid 80s Namco games, Rolling Thunder, Dragon Buster, MetroCross specifically. Was absolutely distraught when the arcade got rid of MetroCross and I could only play it when the travelling fair showed up (that was the only place I could play Galivan too, I love the Nichibutsu games and their music too.)

Of course one year the fair turned up and there was no MetroCross.. Had to wait until it came out on Namco Museum on the PS1 before I could play it again. I have the PCB now though, still love the game!

It had a selection of Prodigy-aping, sample-laden rave-ups. I thought it sounded great (better than Daytona's cringeworthy singing), but not particularly 'iconic'.
