what are they threading into? is it metal or plastic, they don't mean bolts that fix into plastic as apposed to plastic bolts do they

only have later ID/Outrun 2 type which shows 6x M8 Bolts, 2 each side of dash and 2 underneath
The manual definitely says plastic bolt. M8 20mm ones at while the ones that go through the front of the steering panel are metal M8 30mm ones.

Why the bottom ones need to be plastic, I don’t know. This is a model 2 cab so may be different to an ID/Outrun 2 cab

Maybe because there's a lot of wiring looms in behind the dash and there's a small chance a metal bolt could cut into them. This was dispensed with by the time Model 3 cabs came out and it was just six m8x30 metal tamperproof bolts for the dash.

Plastic bolts came today and fit nicely:

I assume they screw into the big heavy motor that’s attached to the steering panel as I have a spare motor that came with the cab and some old bits of plastic bolt are still attached:

I find it really odd to use plastic ones, unless it was a safety thing if something happens it just breaks the plastic bolts
I just removed two ferrai f355 …
They where metal .
Ultimately if you screw the first 4 in the front it ain’t going to fall out.

And probably secures the underside up just as much as it secures the dash

Maybe the plastic ones have more flex in them? I don't know. But yes, the four on the front are more than enough to hold the dash in place.
The big motor that is attached to the steering panel has some spongey bits on the legs that is starting to disintegrate. I have no idea what thats for, maybe sound deadening?
