New version 5 of the image now available, now includes a rom identity and optional rename tool which will standardise your rom names, works out of the box with the common rom set. Also has an option to change the default hotspot SSID name and password or join the pi to your home network rather than working in hotspot mode. Added a few more oddities like Derby Owners Club, Mars TV and Mushi King. Next version will have expanded support for more touchscreen LCD types and revised card emulator code.

Just subscribed to your YouTube channel for this as quite interested in setting one up on my Naomi. Nice work by the way and the front-end is looking better every day. Good work

Hi, I tried the new V5 image and has set the PI to connect to my home network. It is only able to connect to my network as long as the SSID is not hidden for some reason. Anyways, I made the network visible and the WIPI netbooter connects to my wifi router and recives an IP adress, in my case 192.168.1.10, so far so good.. but now what ?

The first thing I tried was to use a web browser and go to 192.168.1.10 but the webserver does not seem to run ? Then I tried 192.168.1.10:8080 and 192.168.1.10:81 in case the web server was configured to run on a diffrent port than 80. Still nothing so I tried to connect with putty ssh 192.168.1.10 which also gives no resposne. So my question is, how do I use the WIPI netbooter in this mode connected to my wifi router on the local network ? (hotspot disabled mode) How can I choose a game to send if the web server on the PI is not active or reachable from a PC or another wireless device on the local network ?

Edit: I guess it didnt work because the router was configured to give out adreses on the same subnet as the wired card connected to netdim. Changing the router to give out another ip range made all the diffrence, however I still coudnt connect if the SSID was hidden by the Router. I also tried to connect to an old router that only had 2.4 ghz band, that did not work even if the SSID were visible.

You're spot on, I used the default original IP range that has been used for netbooting since it was introduced, 192.168.1.0/24 which overlaps with many people's home wifi IP range as you have discovered, the plan is to switch that to using 10.0.0.0/24 in the next release, easier to enter into the netdimm setup menu too! I'm surprised your hidden SSID doesn't work, I had originally had that as a drop down menu only rather with the additional text box as someone had requested support for hidden SSIDs.

I have 2 suggestions for future releases. have 2 new network configuration modes.

1. Use wired connection only. PI connected wired to home router, web server on IP recived on wired interface. Possible to manually set the IP address for every Netdim on the lan. Netdim connected wired to the home router using dhcp. Since IP addresses still easily can be locked on both netdim and raspberry pi by assigning ip adresses based on mac address on the router, this would be fantastic. Then you will be able to netload games ither from the raspberry pi web server or a from a pc using transfer game.

2. Use both wireless and wired network on the PI but in some kind of bridged mode (like a regular router does by default between wired and wireless connections) this will allow DHCP passthough from the wireless to wired nic and all other kind of ip traffic on any port, right ?. Use wired connection to the netdim (still recives ip from home router), and have the web server running on the PIs wireless card IP it recives from the home router. IP adresses can still easly be locked by mac adresses and you will be able to netload games ither from the raspberry pi web server or a from a pc using transfer game.

Or maybe its easier to just run a DHCP server on the LAN nic that only has a scope that gives out 1 ipadress. Connect the wireless card to the home router running the web server. But then just port forward the port that transfergame.exe uses from the wireless to wired nic. Then you would be able to still use the transfergame.exe by using the ip adress the PI wireless card receives and not only the raspberry pis web server solution.

Question related to this:

I've got a Naomi 1 and a chihiro netdimm. Installed zero key and multi bios chip as my Naomi is rev D and I understand that wouldn't see the netdimm.

When I install the netdimm and power up the Naomi, I get... nothing. No Naomi splash screen, just a black screen. When I boot the Naomi without any cart in I get 'error 01', and when I use my VT cart that boots fine.

Is that expected re: the netdimm? I was hoping to get into the service menu to test it before doing all the rest of the steps. Or is what I'm seeing an indication that the netdimm is faulty?

Edit to say I've set the jumpers on the netdimm - anything else or is dead?

This is usually a power issue, check your 5v and 3.3v power connections as they go into the Naomi with it powered up and the netdimm installed, they need to be pretty much bob on for it to boot

Great. I've the old piforce booter and many games give "error 31 this game is not acceptable by main board". Will be trying you WiPi Netbooter out later this evening.

Thanks again!

I was delighted to get mine online this evening. I'd had this same issue, and the solution for me was to set the dip on the back to 0100 which selects USA on the multibios; and also to enable timehack in the options.

Thanks so much Rich for bringing this wizardry into clown hands like mine

New version is available for download:

OS updated, still DietPi based
Card Emulator now working properly
Time Hack mode enabled for 16x2 screen mode
Network section overhauled - you can easily switch between hotspot mode and home wifi mode, static and DHCP addressing, totally customisable
Dimm management overhauled - new network scanner function will find your connected dimms and add them for you, dimms are checked for online/offline status before sending a game and if you have multiple dimms set up for different systems it will send to correct one or prompt with a choice if more than one is found
Audit function removed - all roms are now included and standardised to a proper naming convention and are compressed using gzip so everything fits onto a 32GB card
Navigation improved - games now appear in tiles in the main list, videos have been moved back to the game info screen, when returning to the main list it will drop you back to the same location and there is an option for a floating 'return to top' icon
LCD changes - screen is now in portrait rather than landscape to display the interface better
Various look and feel improvements

Download link is in the first post of this thread, enjoy!

The new version works in much the same way as the previous ones, to avoid clashes with home network ranges I have changed the wired network interface (the side that connects to the netdimm) to use IP address 10.0.0.1/24 by default so I recommend setting your netdimm to use 10.0.0.2 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0. You can change this in the WiPi setup menu if you'd like to use a different range. It doesn't have a default netdimm set up already so you need to add one, once your netdimm is connected and has an IP address you can use the netdimm scanner to find and add it, you'll find it in the Netdimm Management menu under Setup.

Something very odd going on with the forum software, the link is getting corrupted somehow, copy and paste the link in the first post into a new tab or highlight it and use Go To in Chrome

That's great, thanks!

It seems that the forum software is determined to lower-case the first 'N' in the url! Very odd...

EDIT: -

Using a fully URL-encoded string for the last segment works: -

Becomes: -

Chunksin's WiPi Netbooter 14/6/21

Many thanks again
