That's awesome you have the bezel art and yes, it was the alien in the first marquee missing pieces that made it difficult. I actually had almost finished the marquee before getting distracted. I have no horse in this race as I have no interest in the game but I like a good art challenge.

If you need help, feel free to post the pics of the bezel and ill make it up if you dont have the time

Thanks for the info.
I certainly bow down to your knowledge and skills. I'm a complete novice on both Ps and AI. I've done 6 day trial of Ps and not even opened AI. If i was doing it myself i wouldnt use either of them as i cant afford them. Really appriciate you attempting the marquee.

I still need to get you a proper scan of the marquee. I think it would help with some of the missing alien details.

A very kind offer Pezley, I just might take you up on that!

Just patching the scan together now, I'll have to just measure up some proper guidelines. The thing with scanning reverse screened plexi is that the focal point for the scan is always like 5mm in front of where the art is, so will be blurry beyond any decent resolution.

Notice that the graphics are basically replicated throughout, so once one of the bugs is vectored we can repeat it elsewhere.

Just need a little more time to get the dimensions right. Just a reminder, this art is not something that you can just print. Like some other games (Hyper Sports, Astron Belt, Alcon, Every Nichibutsu game) - the special paint used will require a process to get right.

Thats great!

My part pf the bezel is a mix of the middle left ship and top right alien then. I was wondering about this as my part looks like 2 independent stickers. This might help as i may be able to peel them off and get a cleared image of the ship and alien.
The focus thing is a problem i had with the marquee too.

Thats great, a local printer to me can print straight onto Plexi for the bezel, ill ask them about the luminous colours and what options they have. With out seeing the bezel in hand it's quite hard to get an understanding of how the colours are

A little bit of colour matching... can’t find any kind of match for the main blue there though.

The yellow and orange are your standard fluorescent yellow and orange.

My pantone book is rather old, I’m thinking that the colours age also so might balance out..?

Would be interesting to get both your bezel and my marquee scanned for colour matching. See what difference comes back. My marquee was protected under a layer or black paint so doesn't show much sign of aging (on the good section). From those pictures above though, your bezel looks in good shape also. Solid colours.

I struggle with matching colour by eye. Cant see a match on those grays. Top right blue looks good on light blue cloud but not on the the picture next to it.

Just looking at those photos, it occurs to me that we should really be using hires photos and stitch those together based on the locations on the scan. There is so much more detail there, due to the camera being able to focus on the art through the 5mm plexi!

I can pick the best of those colours there, but I can't find a match for the darker blue using the pantone/CMYK. Maybe a matter of printing out the picture/scan and some other blues, and make a DIY swatch.

I have a lead on the square buttons (I found somewhere that sells them), and possibly the CP! (Someone who owns or owned one)
Will let you know how it goes.

R64 was good enough to send over his photos and scan for me to have a play.

You guys wanting a replica of this will run into multiple issues regarding printing. I spoke to my print buddy and as these weren't just screen printed but also used florescent paint, getting anything similar from a standard printer isn't going to happen. You would need to find a company who can screen print to glass/plexi.

So the other issues are the CMYK colour space not being as easy to work with as RGB, a lot of these colours simply dont translate well.

The cheapest option is printed to vinyl and laid on top of glass, second option would be reverse printed clear vinyl with a white mask to mount on the inside of the glass / plexi. 3rd and more expensive would be to print directly to plexi

Below is a WIP of the art restore. This was all thanks to R64

I've taken some close-up pics of the marquee for stitching and added it to a Dropbox folder to share. I've sent you both links and messages.

A quick update on the marquee,

Even with the photos JonTron provided there's still image thats missing enough to make it not repairable with out HUUUUGE amounts of time.

Still working on it but instead of a restoration this is more of a recreation, enough to give some life back to the cabs, unfortunately not %100 accurate. It's still a WIP so lots still to do

hmm, ignore the colours being washed out, for some reason they got muted heavily when uploading to the board

I've also been away from the project for a while, sorting out my game room into some sort of order so i can actually play some games. So many projects...

I have ordered some square red buttons from arcade world. I'll post some pics when they arrive. Thinking i might get thw black ones too and use the black surround with a red button. We'll see what turns up.

Control panel is next on list to get an artwork solution for. I'll start looking at this early in the new year.
