Haha, wives eh :)

This is a game I haven't tried much, I think I shall give it a bit more of a play. Anyone know how good the emulation is compared to the real board?

Cheers! Rich

It's been a while since I had this game in any of my cabinets but over the last 2 weeks I've had it running. Wasn't doing well at it either but carried on learning the patterns and it's finally paid off this evening.

46,620 ?

Yes it is, how would I put it - it was kind of a freak score.

Everything just went so well on that particular go, my previous PB was 31,000 and I normally struggle to get above 30,000. It just all happened together.

The key is level 15 & 16 which are the same wave and very difficult to get through. The game then loops back to level 1 (on level 17) but there are 2 or 3 times the bullets and they are 2 or 3 times faster. However, it's not mega difficult until you get to level 24.jonhughes2018-11-11 11:15:45

I'm getting a little bit more consistent at this now. There are 6 waves in the first 16 levels that are designed to take you out and they're usually successful too.

First wave is I think during level 9 & 10 where an eagle with 2 gulls at each side of the screen dive down followed by another group of them. 12 Firebirds in quick succession. Then at the end of level 9 & 10 there are 13 gulls that do not disappear at the end of the level. You have to destroy the 13 in formations correctly or you get sandwiched.

Next one is level 15 & 16 where an eagle with 2 gulls at each side of the screen dive down followed by another group, then another group. That's 18 coming down in quick succession.

I've got 3 lives (+1 extra life) and 4 warps to get me through level 16. Once past level 16 I've got a really good chance of getting through another 8 levels - which is over 16,000 points worth. You have to balance getting through the level against going for a perfect score on the level.

I'm going to keep practicing longer and then I'll guess I'll have to rig up a video camera and take down that WR. I'm aiming to be more consistent - I'm getting there.jonhughes2018-11-20 10:54:51

I've just recorded a 37,070 and videod it. It's so much harder playing while you're recording it. Kicking myself - the WR was within easy reach. Will keep at it.

Hey!

I've got a video recording of my score at 42,720. How do I officially go about getting my score logged? I think the video file is 1.4 gigabytes so it's going to be difficult to down load it.

Anyone done the submission before?

Managed to download the video to YouTube - Enjoy.

Congrats Jon!

If you want to submit the score to Twin Galaxies, you'll need a verified account which involves first registering as normal then making a short call to an automated system. It's been a while since I verified mine- it may have changed.

Then you just navigate to the SF page and submit your score using an online form. You can upload your game to the TG servers. Youtube videos will most probably get your submission rejected as if the Youtube vid gets lost for some reason the evidence is compromised.

I've not looked at your recording yet but to submit it will need to show the following:

Powering on the cab and showing the boot up.

Showing the PCB and dip settings.

This needs to be done in one continuous recording session.

Thanks for the reply and thanks - I'm not sure it's worth the effort.

I was doing it for the fun of it and didn't realise all the protocol involved. Still, there's very little I can alter in the dips to be honest - just the number of lives, which you can clearly see me losing in the video.

My new high score is 14,410

Keep at it. What level are you getting to on it?

Going for the perfect rounds boosts the score but it also raises the possibility of dying.

It's possible to get perfect Levels on 1-8, 11-14 and 17-24.

I'm guessing levels 9 or 10 are taking you out.

I got two perfects In that game on lvl 1&2
And I think I only got to lvl 7 or 8 I didn’t check.
Only using the warp now when I’m in danger of getting hit.
Had the game back a week now and every game I’m getting better.Chuckie egg2018-12-04 15:07:49

Has your score been affliated Jon?

HI Alex,

Not yet. I had a go today without the camera and got over 45,000. I keep giving away my last 2 lives cheaply (need to reign myself in at the end a bit).

So decided to set up the camera again and go through the correct procedure for a submission. Can't play it again because it becomes a 'performance' instead of a just a game.

I need to get used to the camera once again but I'll clock a score up over 40,000 and get that in, hopefully soon. I'm aiming to get past 50,000 which I think I can achieve.

So, I'm trying to submit a 45,800 score to Twin Galaxies.

I've created an account, filled in the high score page and I'm trying to upload a zipped video file - and no dice. It won't upload.

It'll probably not count anyway because I set the extra man at 8,000 and it requires it to be 5,000. I think that will be pedantic, to be honest, since it's making the game just insignificantly harder (I imagine) pushing the extra man 3,000 ahead.

I'm beginning to think this is all a PITA.

I should have made it past 50,000 this time (again) but just not being careful.jonhughes2018-12-12 22:43:21

Not been on TG for a while but I've also had issues trying to upload files there, its a nightmare. Try using different browsers. I ended up creating multiple scores that no one would vote on as it didn't contain the correct file so sat in limbo for months.
If a setting is wrong then it will be rejected no matter how it changes the gameplay. This is because as soon as it is realised then everyone sees it as an easy way to gain credits with a reject. The voting system encourages a pack mentality I've found. When someone says something is ok then everyone jumps on and votes for it to pass so they can get the submission credits without even watching the videos.
