The transparent pop art was an extra thing, never seen it on any cabinet except one I did a long time ago.

There's two in a Hong Kong warehouse right now, and they definitely came from Sega. Maybe they all just got lost or weren't used?

That's the ones!

They look pretty mis-shapen and like they're hanging off. Maybe they were only stuck on which is why they're missing from most machines??

How much would I like a couple of those- whatever the condition?!

The Chinese supplier suddenly offered me two other cabs instead. They are all Japanese, including the decals and the Chihiro. They look 100% original to me, but it would be nice if any of you could confirm it.
I would actually prefer English language, but I think there may have been a little misunderstanding. I have been insisting that I want Japanese original cabs (not made in China), and I guess they took it literally.

I have a couple of concerns. It seems like there is another black and white sticker underneath the side decal. Or is that only the foil backing?
The Chihiro is Japan version. Is it easy to change this to Export mode? I would prefer to play the game in English.
Is the GD-ROM also Japanese?
So, would it be difficult/expensive to change the game language to English? If so I will ask them to give me the export Chihiro (and GD-ROM?) instead.

There is a little tear in the seat cushion of cab A, so I will ask them to replace that.

(sorry for all the pictures)

Thanks! Do you know what I need to change to make the software English?
Do I need to replace the Chihiro, or can I change the firmware? How about the GD-ROM?

They look like the genuine article to me. I love all these pictures as you don't often get to see all round a Jap spec cab - but of course I am a massive

Like Olly says, the original OR2 artwork is hiding underneath the SP sticker on the side panel of at least one of the cabs (cab B?). First time I've seen the nice foil dash sticker, even in a photo - if it was me I'd keep all the Jap stickers on it - the Jap text is cool and we all know how to play

Good to see the back of the lightbox at last too - I see now the difference between the originals and the Chinese copies and why the pop card doesn't tilt forwards on the copied assembly. I will be fixing this on mine..

Regarding the game language - it's a simple job to change the region of the Chihiro. Can't say 100% if the game will run in EXPORT though with the installed software, as I'm pretty sure there's a Jap version of SP (which this would almost certainly be) and it might require JAPAN region..

I read somewhere that the EXPORT/USA version of SP will only run on EXPORT/USA region so might be the same the other way around. I imagine it was a post somewhere by Andy Geezer who hopefully will know and confirm if/when he sees this..

Strange though as I've run the game with Japanese text on my setup with an EXPORT/USA disc.

Looking closely, cab A would worry me slightly as it looks like there's been a lot of liquid leaked into the base!

Seen (and smelt) a lot worse though

Just region change the mainboard which is easily done and then fit a flash kit to do away with the Japanese version software. The Japanese disk is GDX-0011, Rest of the world disk is GDX-0014.

I'd be more concerned you are going to get the machines they show you if its from China!

As I mentioned, these come with the Japanese Chihiro and GDROM. If I change the Chihiro region to Export, can I purchase English gdrom discs and play it, or do I need new keys also?

Key chip is the same.

Gdx-0014 disc is USA/export only
Gdx-0011 disc is Japan only

Best to ditch gd-rom drive and use flash card or raspberry pi.

Thanks for the info.

Andy, do you still offer your SSD solution?  Like the one you did for Muddymusic/Olly?  I'd like to get my twin SP converted to a better solution for quicker load times, but it only ever runs SP so need need for the multi-game feature offered by CF/pi options.

So Mr Slowcade - are you going to take the plunge..?
